Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak high near New Zealand extends a weak ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. A new high over the Great Australian Bight will push a southerly
change over the southeast coast during Wednesday, and over the Wide Bay coast on
Thursday. A surface trough will remain over Queensland's interior, extending
from the northwest to the Darling Downs, and an upper level trough should pass
over the state's southeast during Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Scattered showers and storms over the southeast districts, and some of these
storms may be severe. More isolated showers and storms also over the central
and southern interior. Just the chance of some isolated and mainly light showers
about the northeast coast. Isolated afternoon showers and storms about the Gulf
of Carpentaria coast. Fine elsewhere. Mostly moderate E to SE winds over the
far north of the state. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over the western
districts. Light to moderate NW to NE winds over the remaining eastern
districts, but with a fresh S to SE change spreading northwards along the far
southern coast during the afternoon and evening.
Forecast for Thursday
The S to SE wind change will decay about the Wide Bay area late in the day as
ridging reforms along the entire east coast. Isolated showers and storms over
the Wide Bay and Capricornia district, extending inland to the central and
southern interior. Isolated showers or drizzle over the southeast district and
the eastern Darling Downs. Isolated afternoon showers or storms about the
southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated showers about the northeast coast.
Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE winds along much of the east coast shifting
NE inland. Light to moderate SE winds over the west of the state.
Forecast for Friday
Fine across much of the state. Just the chance of some isolated afternoon
showers and storms over the central and southern interior, and some isolated
showers about the Capricornia and Wide Bay regions. Isolated afternoon showers
or storms about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast, and isolated showers
about the northeast coast. Light to moderate SE winds along the east coast,
fresh at times north of Cooktown. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the
interior.
Forecast for Saturday
Fine across much of the state. Just the chance of some isolated afternoon
showers and storms over the central and southern interior, and some isolated
showers about the central coast area. Isolated afternoon showers and storms
about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, and some isolated showers about the
northeast coast. Light to moderate SE winds along the east coast, fresh at times
north of Cooktown. Light to moderate NE winds over most of the interior, though
with a fresh southerly change increasing the fire danger in the Channel
Country.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Fresh southerly winds should remain over the western districts, maintaining
high fire dangers there early in the new week. A new upper trough will move
across NSW during the weekend, and it, along with a surface trough, should
produce some showers and thunderstorms about the southern interior on Sunday,
and over the southeast during Monday. Isolated showers over the Capricornia and
Wide Bay regions on Tuesday in a freshening onshore flow. Elsewhere in the
state, the northern part of the surface trough will remain fixed early in the
new week, extending from the northwest to the central interior, and producing
isolated showers and storms in those regions.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
