Mostly moderate SE to E winds over the far north of the state. Mostly light to moderate NE to NW winds elsewhere becoming fresh along the far southern coast during the afternoon and evening. Light to moderate S to SE winds spreading across the south-west and far west of the state. Forecast for Wednesday An upper trough will move across the far south-east of the state. This trough will destabilize conditions resulting in widespread showers and storms with some rain areas over the south-east. Isolated light showers will continue about the north-east tropical coast while isolated afternoon and evening showers and storms will continue about the Gulf of Carpentaria. Fine conditions elsewhere. Mostly moderate SE to E winds will continue over the far north of the state. Mostly light to moderate NE to NW winds before moderate SW to SE winds over the west of the state much of the southern inland. A light to moderate S to SE change will spread northwards along the far southern coast during the afternoon. Forecast for Thursday The coastal trough will push northwards to about the Fraser Island with a firming ridge developing along the coast south of the trough. The inland trough will begin to drift westwards in response to the coastal ridging while in the upper levels a stabilizing upper ridge will move into central areas of the state. So isolated showers and/or storms will occur over the south-east. Isolated light showers will continue about the north-east tropical coast while isolated afternoon and evening showers and storms will occur about the Gulf of Carpentaria. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere. Mostly moderate SE to E winds will continue over the far north of the state. Elsewhere, light to moderate NE to NW winds will continue before a moderate S to SE change spreading northwards along the far southern coast and light to moderate S to SE winds over the west of the state. Forecast for Friday The upper ridge will maintain fine conditions over nearly all of the state. Very isolated showers and/or storms will occur over the south-east in the vicinity of the surface troughs while isolated showers will continue about the north-east tropics with isolated storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria. Some high cloud but with little or no rain will move into the far south-west late in the day. Mostly light to moderate SE to E winds will occur along the east coast and shift to the NE to N over central areas of the state. Light to moderate S to SE winds will continue over the west. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday A new upper trough will move across NSW during the weekend and destabilize conditions over the south-east. At the same time the high over the Great Australian Bight will move eastwards and push the wind change or inland trough eastwards across the interior. So expect showers and storms to again develop over the south-east on these days. A new coastal trough will move northwards along the southern coast during Sunday afternoon and Monday resulting in fresh S to SE winds becoming established again along the entire east coast. Isolated showers will develop on the exposed coast south of Fraser Island after the change while showers on or near the change will tend to scattered. Showers and storms will contract into the central interior on Monday as moist NE winds converge into the inland trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
