Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 22/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland.
The high will move only slowly eastwards over the next few days while gradually
weakening.  A new high will enter the Tasman Sea from the west around the middle
of next week.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine throughout the state, except for some isolated showers about the east
coast and nearby inland areas, and some isolated thunderstorms about the Gulf of
Carpentaria coast.  Moderate to fresh east to southeast winds about the east
coast and northern tropics, and moderate northeast winds over the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should remain over the Tasman Sea, maintaining fresh onshore winds
and some isolated showers about the tropical east coast and inland areas.
Mainly fine with just the chance of a few isolated showers about the remainder
of the east coast, and fine over inland parts. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and northwest district. Light
to moderate northeast to southeast winds over most of the state, fresh at times
about the northeast coast.
Forecast for Monday
A weak surface trough should enter the Channel Country from the west, and it,
along with a weak upper level trough should produce some cloudy periods, but
with little or no rain. Very warm to hot over the southwest ahead of the trough.
Fine over the remainder of the state except for some isolated showers about the
tropical east coast and interior, and some isolated showers and storms about the
Gulf of Carpentaria coast and northwest district.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface trough should spread eastwards, ending up stretching between the
northwest district and the southeast interior late in the day.  However the
interior of the state is expected to stay fine and dry.  Fine also about the
southeast coast.  Isolated showers about the central and northeast coast, and
some isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and
far northwest.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough should continue stretching between the northwest district
and the southeast interior, while a new high pressure system should enter the
Tasman Sea from the west.  The surface trough, along with a weak upper level
trough, could produce some isolated showers and thunderstorms about the
southeast interior, during the afternoon and evening.  Fine over the rest of the
state except for some isolated showers about the northeast coast and some
isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The new high should maintain a ridge along the east coast of Queensland,
while the surface trough should drift further inland into the southern interior.
Moisture levels will gradually increase to the east of the surface trough,
producing some isolated showers about the southeast districts. Fine over the
rest of the state except for some isolated showers and storms in the far north,
mainly about the coasts.  An approaching upper trough could produce some patchy,
mainly light rain about the far southwest on Saturday.
