Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from
Cooktown to Cape Moreton, including Hervey Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over Victoria extended a firm ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. The high will move north-eastwards into New South Wales during the
day and then into the Tasman Sea on Thursday. An upper trough over the
south-west of the state will sharpen a little during the day and then move
eastwards during Wednesday and Thursday and then off the coast on Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Showers along the east coast becoming scattered about the North Tropical
Coast and tending to rain at times. Showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of
Carpentaria and over the west of the state. Isolated showers over the remaining
tropics. Fresh to strong SE winds along the east coast. Moderate E to NE winds
over the interior. High to very high fire dangers over much of the interior of
the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will begin to weaken a little resulting in the ridge also weakening
a little along the east coast. So showers will continue along the east tropical
coast and become more isolated over the eastern tropical interior. Further rain
areas will occur about the North Tropical Coast. Along the southern coast
isolated showers or drizzle areas will occur. The upper trough over the
southwest and west of the state will trigger isolated afternoon and evening
showers and storms over the north-west. Fresh to strong SE winds will continue
along the east tropical coast while moderate to fresh SE winds will occur along
the southern coast. Moderate E to NE winds will continue over the interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will move into the Tasman Sea and weaken further. So showers about
the east tropical coast will decrease while the rain areas about the North
Tropical Cost will also ease. An afternoon storm may develop about western Cape
York Peninsula. Fine conditions will occur across most of the inland and the
south-east. Fresh to strong SE winds will continue along the east tropical
coast while moderate to fresh SE winds will occur along the southern coast.
Moderate E to NE winds will continue over the interior.
Forecast for Friday
The high will continue to weaken and move into the central Tasman Sea. So the
ridge along the east coast will weaken further. Fresh to strong SE winds will
continue along the east tropical coast while mostly moderate SE winds will occur
along the southern coast with even lighter winds about the far south. Showers
along the east tropical coast will be mostly isolated but still tend to
scattered about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms will
occur about western Cape York Peninsula. Over the interior and the south-east of
the state conditions will be fine under the influence of the upper ridge.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
A weak ridge will persist along the east coast while the upper ridge will
move into eastern districts. So conditions will continue over most of the state
with only isolated showers along the east coast north of about Yeppoon and
isolated afternoon thunderstorms about western Cape York Peninsula . Some high
cloud may move into the south-west as the next upper trough moves into the west
of the continent. Temperatures over the interior will warm as NE winds develop.
Moderate to fresh SE winds will continue along the east tropical coast while
light to moderate E to NE winds will continue along the southern coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
