Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 16/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong wind Warning is current for Monday for coastal
waters from Bowen to Point Danger.
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for southern parts of the Channel Country
district.

Weather Situation
A surface trough extended across the northern tropics and will reform and
move westwards into the eastern interior on Monday and then pass out of the
state into the Northern Territory about the middle of the week. The  high over
the Great Australian Bight will move slowly eastwards and reach the Tasman Sea
late on Wednesday. This high will extend a firm ridge along the east coast of
Queensland from Monday onwards. A weak upper trough will move into the far
south-west of the state on Monday and persist over the area into the middle of
the week.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated afternoon and evening showers and storms over the far northern
tropics where light to moderate E to N winds. Fine elsewhere with mostly light
to moderate SW to SE winds, gusty at times over the interior. High to very high
fire danger over the interior.
Forecast for Monday
Showers and thunderstorms will develop in a band from the Gulf of Carpentaria
through the central interior to the south-east inland. Showers will develop in
most east coast districts with some possible thunder about the Central Coast
area. Continuing fine over the west of the state. Fresh to strong S to SE winds
will spread along the southern and central coasts. Along the remaining east
coast winds will shift to the SE and begin to freshen. Light to moderate SE to E
winds will occur over the inland. High to very high fire dangers over the
interior, reaching severe in the Channel Country.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will drift into north-east NSW resulting in the coastal showers
contracting to north of about the Yeppoon to Fraser Island area. About the North
Tropical Coast the showers will tend to rain at times. Showers and storms will
develop over the west of the state while fine conditions will develop over the
central and southern interior.  Fresh to strong SE winds will occur along much
of the east coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will slowly move into the Tasman Sea but maintain a firm ridge along
much of the east coast. Again showers will continue north of the Yeppoon to
Fraser Island area and tend to rain at times about the North Tropical Coast.
Showers and storms will persist about the far west of the state and about the
Gulf of Carpentaria while fine conditions will continue elsewhere over the
interior. Fresh to strong SE winds will continue about the east tropical coast
while easing to moderate about much of the southern coast.
Forecast for Thursday
A few showers will continue along the east tropical coast while showers and
storms will continue about parts of the Gulf of Carpentaria. The rain at times
on the North Tropical Coast will ease during the day. Fresh to strong SE winds
along the east tropical coast will slowly decrease during the day. Fine
conditions will occur elsewhere with mostly light to moderate E to NE.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Ridging will persist along most of the east coast through the weekend and
maintain fine conditions in most areas of the state. Isolated showers will
continue along parts of the east coast. Winds will be mostly moderate SE to E
over the northern tropics and light to moderate E to NE elsewhere.

Monday.
