Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 15/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country,
Northwest, Central West, western parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields,
south-west parts of the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts and the
Gulf Country for Sunday.

Weather Situation
A surface trough extended across the far northern and eastern districts of
the state and is expected to clear the southern coast overnight. A high over the
Great Australian Bight will move slowly eastwards and reach the Tasman sea on
Wednesday. This high will extend a form ridge along the east coast of Queensland
from Monday onwards. A weak upper trough will move into the far south-west of
the state on Monday and persist over the area into the middle of the week.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Showers and storms over most far northern and eastern districts of the state
where light to moderate NE to NW winds fresh at times along the southern and
central coasts. Fine over most inland areas with dry and gusty at times SW to SE
winds. A Severe to Extreme Fire Danger over much of the interior including the
Channel Country, Northwest, Central West, western parts of the Central Highlands
and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders
districts.
Forecast for Sunday
Fine over most southern and western areas of the state with light to moderate
SW to SE winds gusty at times over the interior. Isolated afternoon and evening
showers and storms over parts of the far northern and eastern tropics where
light to moderate E to N winds. Some middle to high cloud will develop over the
north-west of the state. A Severe to Extreme Fire Danger over much of the
interior including the Channel Country, Northwest, Central West, western parts
of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, south-west parts of the Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts and the Gulf Country.
Forecast for Monday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will continue to move eastwards and
extend a firm ridge along most of the east coast. Isolated showers will develop
along most of the east coast with fresh to strong S to SE winds. An inland
trough will move slowly westwards as the ridge along the east coast firms and
this will trigger isolated afternoon showers and storms over the tropical
interior and about the Gulf of Carpentaria. Fine conditions will continue
elsewhere though some middle to high cloud will spread across the tropical
interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high will drift further eastwards while maintaining the firm ridge along
the east coast. So showers, mostly isolated, will continue along most of the
east coast with fresh to strong SE winds. These showers will tend to rain at
times about the North Tropical Coast. The inland trough will move out of the
state but surface moisture in conjunction with the upper trough will produce
isolated afternoon showers and storms over the far west. Fine conditions will
continue elsewhere over the interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The firm ridge will persist along the east coast with isolated showers in
most areas. These showers will again tend to rain at times about the north
tropical coast. Fresh to strong SE winds will continue about the east tropical
coast while easing to moderate about much of the southern coast. Fine conditions
will continue over most of the interior while isolated showers and storms
continue about the southern Gulf of Carpentaria.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high will move slowly across the Tasman Sea but maintain a ridge onto the
east tropical coast. So showers will continue along this section of coast. Along
the southern coast winds will shift to the NE and this amy result in isolated
morning showers developing. Isolated showers and storms will continue about the
southern Gulf of Carpentaria while over the inland conditions will remain fine.

Sunday.
