Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country,
Northwest, Central West, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego,
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough over the interior of the state will move east through
Saturday and clear off the southeast coast late this evening. An upper level
trough over the southwest of the state will also move east across the state and
clear off the coast on Saturday night. A high will develop in the western Great
Australian Bight later today and move east during Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Early thundery rain over the Central Highlands and Coalfields district and
southeast of the state will continue to contract east this morning and clear off
the east coast later this morning. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will then
develop about the east of the state and the Maranoa and Warrego district during
the day and some of these storms may be severe. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms are also likely about the southern tropics and Gulf Country. Dry
over the remainder of the interior. A Severe to Extreme Fire Danger over much
of the interior including the Channel Country, Northwest, Central West, Central
Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego, Northern Goldfields and Upper
Flinders districts. Moderate to fresh NW winds over the southeast districts
ahead of a drier SW change, contracting offshore during the evening. Moderate
to fresh SW winds over the state's west, light to moderate SE to NE winds over
the northern tropics.
Forecast for Sunday
The high in the Great Australian Bight will extend drier air over the central
and southern parts of the state, producing fine conditions about a large part of
the state. However, enough moisture will persist about the tropics to produce
showers and thunderstorms. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds across most of the
state, with SE to NE winds about the northeast tropics.
Forecast for Monday
The high will move over east over Victoria and extend a ridge along the east
coast. This will freshen SE winds and produce some isolated showers about the
east coast and nearby inland areas. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to
persist over the tropics. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should lie off the New South Wales Coast and will extend isolated
showers and fresh to strong winds along the eastern districts. Showers will
increase to scattered about the northeast coast during the day. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms continuing over the northern districts. An upper
level trough approaching from the west will develop some isolated showers and
thunderstorms form in the western districts. Fine elsewhere over the
interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
The high will remain near the northern New South Wales coast mid week,
maintaining isolated showers and fresh to strong winds about the east coast,
with more widespread showers about the northeast coast. Fine and dry over the
southern and central interior. Some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the
western districts, clearing from Thursday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
remaining about the northern tropics.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
