MELBOURNE - Oct 14/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country, Northwest, Central West, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A surface trough over the interior of the state will move east through Saturday and clear off the southeast coast late this evening. An upper level trough over the southwest of the state will also move east across the state and clear off the coast on Saturday night. A high will develop in the western Great Australian Bight later today and move east during Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Early thundery rain over the Central Highlands and Coalfields district and southeast of the state will continue to contract east this morning and clear off the east coast later this morning. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will then develop about the east of the state and the Maranoa and Warrego district during the day and some of these storms may be severe. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also likely about the southern tropics and Gulf Country. Dry over the remainder of the interior. A Severe to Extreme Fire Danger over much of the interior including the Channel Country, Northwest, Central West, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa and Warrego, Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders districts. Moderate to fresh NW winds over the southeast districts ahead of a drier SW change, contracting offshore during the evening. Moderate to fresh SW winds over the state's west, light to moderate SE to NE winds over the northern tropics. Forecast for Sunday The high in the Great Australian Bight will extend drier air over the central and southern parts of the state, producing fine conditions about a large part of the state. However, enough moisture will persist about the tropics to produce showers and thunderstorms. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds across most of the state, with SE to NE winds about the northeast tropics. Forecast for Monday The high will move over east over Victoria and extend a ridge along the east coast. This will freshen SE winds and produce some isolated showers about the east coast and nearby inland areas. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to persist over the tropics. Fine elsewhere. Forecast for Tuesday The high should lie off the New South Wales Coast and will extend isolated showers and fresh to strong winds along the eastern districts. Showers will increase to scattered about the northeast coast during the day. Isolated showers and thunderstorms continuing over the northern districts. An upper level trough approaching from the west will develop some isolated showers and thunderstorms form in the western districts. Fine elsewhere over the interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The high will remain near the northern New South Wales coast mid week, maintaining isolated showers and fresh to strong winds about the east coast, with more widespread showers about the northeast coast. Fine and dry over the southern and central interior. Some isolated showers and thunderstorms over the western districts, clearing from Thursday. Isolated showers and thunderstorms remaining about the northern tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
