MELBOURNE - Oct 13/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak surface trough lies over the interior of the state. A high pressure ridge occurs about the east coast of Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Friday Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms in the west. Some isolated showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula this morning. Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms clearing the southeast coast early this morning. Scattered showers and thunderstorms redeveloping over the eastern half of the state this afternoon, increasing towards the southeast region. Thunderstorms tending to thundery rain over the southeast overnight. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the tropics in the afternoon. Moderate NE to NW winds over the interior, tending SW over the Channel Country. Light to moderate N to NE winds about the east coast. Light winds across the tropics. A Very High fire danger for the North West and Central West districts with a Severe Fire Danger in the Channel Country. Forecast for Saturday Early patchy rain across the southern tropics and the central coast. Early thundery rain over the southeast region. Some isolated showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. Scattered showers and thunderstorms redeveloping across the southern tropics, central coast to the Southeast region in the afternoon. Dry over the interior. Forecast for Sunday The surface trough that passed through the southeast region on Saturday clears the coast and reaches the Capricorn region early. However during the afternoon this trough will fall back across the southeast region with afternoon sea breezes. This will maintain some shower and thunderstorm activity over the Capricorn region and possibly extend south to near Taroom. Elsewhere, showers and thunderstorms generally north of the trough, across the southern tropics, dry over the interior. Forecast for Monday A large southern high will move across Victoria and extend a ridge along the east coast. This will freshen SE winds about the Queensland east coast to strong wind force with increasing showers. The trough just inland on the central coast will move further west, extending the thunderstorm and shower activity southwest over the eastern interior of Queensland. Dry further west and south. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The large southern high will move off the N.S.W coast and continue to maintain a strong ridge about the east coast of Queensland. This will maintain the strong winds and showers about the Queensland east coast. The inland trough will continue to move west with thunderstorm activity now pushed into western districts. Isolated showers generally over eastern districts. Fine over the southern interior. Showers and thunderstorms remaining about the tropics.
