MELBOURNE - Oct 13/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel Country for Friday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak surface trough lies over the interior of the state. A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea and southern Coral Sea is directing moist NE winds across the east of the state. An upper level and surface trough will move in to the far southwest of the state during Friday. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Scattered showers and thunderstorms east of the weak surface trough which lies roughly from Richmond to Blackall to St. George with some severe thunderstorm activity likely. Mostly fine over the west of the state with only isolated thunderstorms but with little or no rain expected due to the dry lower levels of the atmosphere. Light to moderate mostly NE winds to the east of the trough with NW to SW winds to the west of the trough. Forecast for Friday An upper level trough will enter far western Queensland and push a surface trough through the Channel Country. This will generate early thundery rain about the southwest of the state that will tend to scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop east of the trough, though remaining more isolated in the tropics and about the Central Coast. Thunderstorms and showers will tend to thundery rain areas over the southern interior and southeast in the evening. Moderate NW winds ahead of the trough tending moderate to fresh S to SW behind the trough. A Very High fire danger for the North West and Central West districts with a Severe Fire Danger in the Channel Country. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough and upper level trough will move east and into the southeast of the state late in the day. Early thundery rain areas over a large part of the state will tend to scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day Moderate falls are possible apart the southeast of the state. Showers and thunderstorms should be more isolated in the Gulf Country, southern tropics, Central Coast districts. Fine in the Channel Country. Forecast for Sunday The upper trough should now lie offshore with conditions generally stabilising across the south and southwest of the state. There is some uncertainty about how far north the fine weather will extend but scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue about the northern half of the state. Isolated showers may persist about the southeast coast. Forecast for Monday Another upper level system is likely to develop over the southwest of the state on Monday. This is likely to create further scattered showers, thunderstorms and rain areas about central parts of the state with isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere. Conditions should remain dry about the far south and southwest of the state but there is considerable uncertainty in the forecast at this stage. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday A large high pressure system in the Tasman Sea is expected to move slowly east through the outlook period. This will direct fresh to strong SE winds onto the east coast with showers. An upper level trough is likely to persist close to the west of the state through the outlook period keeping conditions unstable across most of the interior of the state with further showers and thunderstorms.
