Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 13/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Channel
Country for Friday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak surface trough lies over the interior of the state. A high pressure
system in the Tasman Sea and southern Coral Sea is directing moist NE winds
across the east of the state. An upper level and surface trough will move in to
the far southwest of the state during Friday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms east of the weak surface trough which
lies roughly from Richmond to Blackall to St. George with some severe
thunderstorm activity likely. Mostly fine over the west of the state with only
isolated thunderstorms but with little or no rain expected due to the dry lower
levels of the atmosphere. Light to moderate mostly NE winds to the east of the
trough with NW to SW winds to the west of the trough.
Forecast for Friday
An upper level trough will enter far western Queensland and push a surface
trough through the Channel Country. This will generate early thundery rain about
the southwest of the state that will tend to scattered showers and thunderstorms
during the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop east
of the trough, though remaining more isolated in the tropics and about the
Central Coast. Thunderstorms and showers will tend to thundery rain areas over
the southern interior and southeast in the evening. Moderate NW winds ahead of
the trough tending moderate to fresh S to SW behind the trough. A Very High fire
danger for the North West and Central West districts with a Severe Fire Danger
in the Channel Country.
Forecast for Saturday
The surface trough and upper level trough will move east and into the
southeast of the state late in the day. Early thundery rain areas over a large
part of the state will tend to scattered showers and thunderstorms during the
day Moderate falls are possible apart the southeast of the state. Showers and
thunderstorms should be more isolated in the Gulf Country, southern tropics,
Central Coast districts. Fine in the Channel Country.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper trough should now lie offshore with conditions generally
stabilising across the south and southwest of the state. There is some
uncertainty about how far north the fine weather will extend but scattered
showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue about the northern half of the
state. Isolated showers may persist about the southeast coast.
Forecast for Monday
Another upper level system is likely to develop over the southwest of the
state on Monday. This is likely to create further scattered showers,
thunderstorms and rain areas about central parts of the state with isolated
showers and thunderstorms elsewhere. Conditions should remain dry about the far
south and southwest of the state but there is considerable uncertainty in the
forecast at this stage.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A large high pressure system in the Tasman Sea is expected to move slowly
east through the outlook period. This will direct fresh to strong SE winds onto
the east coast with showers. An upper level trough is likely to persist close to
the west of the state through the outlook period keeping conditions unstable
across most of the interior of the state with further showers and
thunderstorms.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
