MELBOURNE - Oct 12/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak surface trough lies over the interior of the state. A ridge of higher pressure is forming along the east coast of Queensland and is directing a moist NE flow into the east of the state. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Patchy cloud over the west of the state with patchy light rain and very isolated thunderstorms, but with little, if any rain, due to the dry lower levels of the atmosphere. Scattered showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and eastern half of the state. Light NE winds over the tropics, light to moderate N to NE winds generally about the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior. Forecast for Friday Early rain clearing over the southeast region with a little patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms in the west. Showers and thunderstorms developing generally over the eastern half of the state in the afternoon. Thunderstorms tending to thundery rain over the southeast region overnight. Becoming fine in the far west. Moderate NW winds ahead of the trough tending moderate to fresh S to SW behind the trough. Forecast for Saturday An upper level trough will contract thundery rain east during the day with moderate falls. Showers and thunderstorms redeveloping again over the tropics in the afternoon. Fine over the interior. Forecast for Sunday After the passage of the upper level trough showers and thunderstorms will contract to the tropics and central coast in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon showers about the southeast SE region. Dry over the interior. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday A ridge of higher pressure will develop about the east coast with freshening SE winds on Monday. Strong SE winds developing about the southeast coast. Isolated showers developing about the east coast and thunderstorm activity will redevelop over the eastern interior in the afternoon. Isolated afternoon showers through the southeast region. By Tuesday thunderstorm activity will reform over the west of the state and persist over the tropics. Fine over the southern interior and showers about the east coast. Much the same pattern for Wednesday. By Thursday thunderstorm activity decreasing in the west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday.
