A high over the Great Australian Bight will move into the southern Tasman Sea on Thursday and direct a moist northeast flow over eastern Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Central Coast, Capricornia and Wide Bay districts with isolated showers about the Southeast Coast district. Fine over most of the remainder of the state apart from some isolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the far west, but little rain is expected from these due to the dry lower levels of the atmosphere. Isolated showers about the western coast of Cape York Peninsula. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the tropics. Moderate SE to NE elsewhere about the east coast. Light to moderate SW to SE winds over the interior. Forecast for Thursday Patchy high cloud and isolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the west but little rainfall is expected from these due to the dry lower levels of the atmosphere. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop over the eastern half of the state in the moist air. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southern tropics. Moderate E to NE winds about the east coast and the eastern interior. Moderate NE to NW winds about the southern tropics and variable elsewhere. Forecast for Friday An upper level trough will enter far western Queensland and push a surface trough through the Channel Country. This will generate early thundery rain about the southwest of the state that will tend to scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day. Isolated showers will tend to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon east of trough, though remaining more isolated in the tropics. Thunderstorms and showers will tend to thundery rain areas over the southern interior and southeast in the evening. Moderate NW winds ahead of the trough tending moderate to fresh S to SW behind the trough. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough and upper level trough will move east and clear the southeast coast in the evening. Early thundery rain areas in southern interior and southeast of the state will tend to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon with moderate falls possible. Elsewhere, isolated morning showers and thunderstorms in the Gulf Country, southern tropics, Central Coast and northern Central Highlands and Coalfields will become scattered in the afternoon. Fine through the Channel Country and Central West districts. Forecast for Sunday The upper trough should now lie well offshore with conditions stabilising across the state. Dry S to SW winds should extend across most of the state in the wake of the surface trough. However, moisture will persist about Cape York Peninsula, the Gulf coast and the southern tropics which may lead to isolated afternoon shower and thunderstorm activity. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday A strong SE wind change should move north over southern waters during Monday with fresh to strong SE winds extending along the entire east coast on Tuesday. Showers and thunderstorms will persist over the tropics on Monday with showers redeveloping over the east coast as the strong SE wind change moves north. Showers will continue about the east coast on Tuesday and Wednesday, tending scattered about the northeast coast. Showers and thunderstorms will also persist over the tropics. The interior of the state should be mostly fine on Tuesday and Wednesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Thursday.
