MELBOURNE - Oct 11/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A broad trough of lower pressure over the southern tropics will weaken over the next few days. A high over the Great Australian Bight will move into the southern Tasman Sea on Thursday. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms will develop about the Central Coast, Capricornia and Wide Bay districts in the afternoon with isolated showers towards the southeast coast. It will remain fine over most of the remainder of the state apart from some isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms and showers in the far west and some thunderstorms about northwest coast of Cape York Peninsula. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the tropics. Moderate NE to NW about the east coast. Light to moderate S to SE winds over the interior. Forecast for Thursday The high will enter the southern Tasman Sea and will extend a weak ridge about the east coast of Queensland. A trough will develop over the interior. Isolated thunderstorms and showers in the west as an upper level trough approaches from the west. Scattered showers and thunderstorms developing over the eastern interior in the afternoon east of the surface trough. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the tropics. Forecast for Friday The upper level trough will enter far western Queensland. A surface trough about the Channel Country will generate isolated morning showers and thunderstorms in the southwest. Isolated showers will tend to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon east of trough, though tending more isolated in the tropics. Thunderstorms and showers will tend to thundery rain areas over the southern interior and southeast in the evening. Moderate NW winds ahead of the trough tending moderate S to SW behind the trough. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough and upper level trough will move east and clear the southeast coast in the afternoon or evening. Early thundery rain in southern interior and southeast will tend to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon east of the trough. Elsewhere, isolated showers and thunderstorms northeast of the trough in the morning will become scattered in the afternoon and evening. It will be become fine west of the troughs. Moderate to fresh NW'ly winds will increase ahead of the trough in the south and moderate SW/SE winds behind the trough. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday By Sunday the surface trough will clear north contracting the showers and thunderstorms to the tropics. Fine over the remainder of the state. A strong SE wind change will enter far southern waters late in the day. Showers and thunderstorms will persist over the tropics for Monday with showers redeveloping over the east coast as the strong SE wind change moves north. By Tuesday showers and thunderstorms will develop in the west, fine over the interior, showers about the east coast in a strong SE'ly flow.
