MELBOURNE - Oct 11/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Capricornia and parts of the Central Coast and Whitsundays, Central Highlands and Coalfields and Wide Bay and Burnett Forecast Districts. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A broad trough of lower pressure occurs over the southern tropics with a low pressure centre northeast of Longreach. A high occurs over the Great Australian Bight with a ridge extending into N.S.W. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the central coast, Capricorn and Wide Bay districts this afternoon and evening. Fine over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate N to NW winds over the tropics, moderate NW to NE winds about the east coast. Light to moderate S to SE winds over the interior. A moderate to high fire danger over most districts. Forecast for Wednesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing about the central coast, Capricorn and Wide Bay districts in the afternoon with isolated afternoon showers towards the southeast coast. Fine over most of the remainder of the state apart from some thundery rain developing in the far west and some thunderstorms about northwest coast of Cape York Peninsular. Light to moderate NE to NW winds over the tropics. Moderate NE to NW about the east coast. Light to moderate S to SE winds over the interior. Moderate to high fire danger over most districts. Forecast for Thursday The high will enter the southern Tasman Sea and will extend a ridge about the east coast of Queensland. A trough will develop over the interior. Thundery rain in the west as an upper level trough approaches. Occasional showers and thunderstorms developing over the eastern interior in the afternoon east of the surface trough. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the tropics. Isolated afternoon showers about the southeast coast. Forecast for Friday The upper level trough enters western Queensland with a surface trough. Early thundery rain in the west, clearing patchy rain over the southeast. Occasional showers and thunderstorms developing again over the interior, tending isolated in the tropics. Thunderstorms tending to thundery rain areas over the southern interior in the evening. Rain areas spreading to the southeast coast. Becoming fine over the southwest of the state. Forecast for Saturday The surface trough and upper level trough moving east and clearing the southeast coast later in the day. Thundery rain contracting to the southeast and clearing by the evening. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics in the afternoon. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday By Sunday the surface trough clears north contracting the showers and thunderstorms to the tropics. Fine over the remainder of the state. Showers and thunderstorms persisting over the tropics for Monday with showers redeveloping over the southeast region. By Tuesday showers and thunderstorms developing through the west, fine over the interior, showers about the east coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Wednesday.
