Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 10/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A broad trough of lower pressure over the southern tropics with a high over
the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge into southwestern Queensland. A high
over the Coral Sea extends a ridge into northern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the coast from Fraser Island to
Townsville, extending inland to Central Highlands and Coalfields, north of
Emerald. Fine elsewhere in the state. Light to moderate S to SW winds over the
interior. Moderate to fresh N to NW winds over eastern tropical water. Light
winds otherwise.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high over the Great Australian Bight will move over southeastern
Australia. This high will extend a ridge over the southern Coral Sea and direct
a moist E to NE'ly airflow over eastern Queensland. This will in turn maintain
unstable conditions in eastern districts with isolated thunderstorms and showers
south of Townsville. A weak upper level trough over Northern Territory will
drive isolated thunderstorms and showers in the southwest. Possible isolated
showers and thunderstorms about western Peninsula.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will continue to direct a moist E to NE'ly airflow over eastern
Queensland as it moves into the southern Tasman Sea. A trough will develop about
the central interior with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms east of
the trough, chiefly south of Townsville. Isolated thunderstorms and showers will
continue west of the trough as the upper trough moves into western Queensland.
Forecast for Friday
The high will continue to direct a moist E to NE'ly airflow over Queensland.
The surface trough now in western Channel Country will slowly move east.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms east of the trough in southern districts,
tending more isolated in the north. Another upper trough will enter southwestern
Queensland and begin to amplify.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The upper trough will continue to amplify over southern Queensland and move
east. The upper trough will induce a surface trough with rain areas and isolated
thunderstorms in southern districts east of the trough tending to isolated
showers and thunderstorms to the north. Fine conditions will return to western
Queensland with the passage of the trough. There is a lot uncertainty with the
evolution of the upper trough from Sunday. At present, the upper trough is most
likely to move off the coast late Saturday with improving conditions Sunday into
Monday.
