Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Gulf Country for
today.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high southwest of Perth extends a ridge across western and far northern
Queensland. The high will move east into the Great Australian Bight and slightly
weaken. A weak surface low over eastern Western Australia will move east,
entering far western Queensland early Monday. A weak surface low across in the
northern Tasman sea extends a trough across the central coast and into the
northwest.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine and mostly dry conditions will continue in most areas of the state.
Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the Cape York Peninsula.
Areas of high cloud in the southern interior and southeast. Winds will be mostly
light to moderate SW to S over the interior and NE to NW, fresh at times in the
afternoon, about the coast.
Forecast for Monday
Fine almost throughout the state apart from isolated afternoon showers or
storms about western Cape York Peninsula. A band of middle to high cloud will
spread across central areas of the state, but little rain is expected with the
cloud. Light to moderate NE to NW winds becoming fresh at times in the afternoon
will continue about the coast while over the inland winds will be light to
moderate SW to W. A Very High fire rating in North West, Central West, Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Central Highlands and Coalfields, and Maranoa and
Warrego.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface low will remain weak as it moves east towards the central coast.
Isolated afternoon and evening showers will develop about the Central and
Capricornia coasts in response to uplift associated with the low. Fine
conditions will continue elsewhere. Light to moderate NE to NW winds, fresh at
times in the afternoon, will continue about the coast while over the inland SW
to W winds will be maintained.
Forecast for Wednesday
An upper trough will move into Central Australia and this will result in
increasing middle to high cloud over the west of the state. However, in the low
level of the atmosphere, conditions will remain dry so any rain from this cloud
will not reach the surface. Over eastern districts instability will increase due
to an upper disturbance, so showers and storms will increase mainly south of
about Bowen. Light to moderate SW to SE winds will occur over western areas of
the state while elsewhere winds will be light to moderate SE to NE mostly.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper trough will amplify over eastern Queensland, enhancing instability
in the eastern half of the state with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Showers and thunderstorms will tend more to areas of rain in the southeast.
Light to moderate E to NE winds across the eastern half of the state, and light
to moderate NW to SW in the western half.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Another upper trough will enter far western Queensland on Friday and move
across the state on Saturday. Unsettled conditions will continue east of the
trough, with showers, storms and areas of rain likely, especially in the south.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
