Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for various central
Queensland districts for Saturday.
A Fire Weather Warning is current for the Gulf Country for Sunday.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
An upper level trough and a weak surface trough are moving off the eastern
Queensland coast. Another, weaker upper level trough will approach the Channel
Country from the west on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southeast and southern interior,
easing to a fine evening. Fine over the remainder of the state, except for just
some isolated showers about the east coast, and just the chance of some isolated
showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Light to moderate
NW to NE winds will occur along much of the east coast, with light to moderate E
to NE winds over the far northern tropics. Dry moderate to fresh S to SW winds
across much of the interior, and a Fire Weather Warning is current for central
Queensland [check latest warnings].
Forecast for Sunday
Dry air will keep conditions mainly fine over a lot of the state. Just the
chance of some very isolated afternoon showers or storms about the Gulf of
Carpentaria coast. A new upper level trough will approach the Channel Country
from the west late in the day, generating some high cloud over the state's
southwest during the afternoon and evening, though with little or no rain. Winds
will be mostly light to moderate SW to SE, with afternoon seabreezes about the
coasts.
Forecast for Monday
The new upper level trough will sweep across the southeast of the state with
isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms. Cloudy periods but mainly fine
with little or no rain about the southern and central interior. Some onshore
winds ahead of a weak surface trough could generate some isolated showers about
the central and Capricornia coast. Fine and dry over the remainder of the
state.
Forecast for Tuesday
Conditions will be fine across nearly all of the state as a weak high over
South Australia maintains the flow of dry southeast winds over much of
Queensland. A surface trough will continue to extend from the Central Coast to
the state's northwest, and isolated showers may again develop near the trough
about parts of the central and northeast coasts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will strengthen and move to east of Tasmania and start to direct
moist east to northeasterly winds across eastern Queensland. Isolated showers
about the east coast. Increasing cloud and light rain are possible in the far
southwest ahead of the next upper trough.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high will continue to move to the southeast towards New Zealand and
strengthen. This high will maintain a moist northeasterly air flow over eastern
Queensland with increasing showers and thunderstorms over eastern districts,
extending into the central and southern interior during Thursday and Friday.
Another upper trough will approach the far west on Friday increasing further
increasing showers and thunderstorms in the southern half of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
