MELBOURNE - Oct 7/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning is current for various central Queensland districts for Saturday. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is current for the southeast interior of the state. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation An upper level trough and a weak surface trough will move across the eastern districts during Saturday. Another, weaker upper level trough will approach the Channel Country from the west on Monday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southeast and southern interior, contracting off the coast during the day. Some of these thunderstorms may be severe. Fine over the remainder of the state, except for just some isolated showers about the remainder of the east coast, and just the chance of some isolated thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Light to moderate NW to NE winds will occur along much of the east coast, with light to moderate E to NE winds over the far northern tropics. Dry moderate to fresh S to SW winds will develop across much of the interior during the afternoon, and a Severe Weather Warning is current for central Queensland [check latest warnings]. Forecast for Sunday Dry air will keep conditions mainly fine over a lot of the state. Just the chance of some very isolated afternoon showers or storms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. A new upper level trough will approach the Channel Country from the west late in the day, generating some high cloud over the state's southwest during the afternoon and evening, though with little or no rain. Winds will be mostly light to moderate SW to SE, with afternoon seabreezes about the coasts. Forecast for Monday The new upper level trough will sweep across the southeast of the state early in the day, producing some areas of rain about the southeast districts, with some local thunder possible. Cloudy periods but mainly fine with little or no rain about the southern and central interior. Some onshore winds ahead of a weak surface trough could generate some isolated showers about the central and Capricornia coast. Fine and dry over the remainder of the state. Forecast for Tuesday Conditions will be fine across nearly all of the state as a weak high over South Australia maintains the flow of dry southeast winds over much of Queensland. A surface trough will continue to extend from the Central Coast to the state's northwest, and isolated showers may again develop near the trough about parts of the central and northeast coasts. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The high will move quickly over the southeast of the continent, and will then maintain a ridge off the east coast of Queensland as it drifts gradually east over the Tasman Sea late in the week. This pattern will generate moist north to northeasterly winds and increasing showers and thunderstorms over the eastern districts from mid week. Mainly fine over the west and the far north of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Saturday.
