Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak surface trough will persist over the interior of the state through the
weekend. A new upper level trough will move across the state during Saturday
followed by another on Monday. A firm ridge will then develop over southern and
western Qld during Monday and tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Fine over most of the state. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the
southern Gulf of Carpentaria into this evening. Isolated showers about the
southeast tropical coast and over the far south-east and over the south-east
also into this evening. Moderate to fresh NW to NE winds along the east coast
shifting light to moderate SE to NE over the northern tropics. Light to moderate
W to SW winds over the interior. A Very High fire danger over the Channel
Country, Central West and Central Highlands and Coalfields districts.
Forecast for Saturday
Scattered showers and storms will occur over the south-east corner of the
state. Isolated showers and/or storms will develop about much of the Gulf of
Carpentaria in the afternoon and along the south-east tropical coast. Fine
conditions elsewhere. Light to moderate NW to NE winds will occur along much of
the east coast with light to moderate E to NE winds over the far northern
tropics. Dry moderate to fresh S to SW winds will develop across much of the
interior during the afternoon resulting in increasing fire dangers.
Forecast for Sunday
Conditions will be fine across most of the state under a weakly stable
atmosphere. Very isolated afternoon showers or storms may develop about the Gulf
of Carpentaria in the afternoon. A new upper trough will begin to amplify into
south-east Australia during the day and will result in some middle to high cloud
with some light rain developing over south-west border areas late in the
evening. Winds will be mostly light to moderate SW to SE shifting moderate to
fresh NE to N along much of the east coast during the afternoon allowing a
surface trough to reform over the far eastern interior.
Forecast for Monday
The new upper trough will sweep across the south-east of the state during the
day and will destabilize conditions in this area. So expect some light rain,
showers and storms to occur in this area. The surface trough will sharpen over
far eastern Queensland with again moderate to fresh NE to NW winds occurring
along much of the east coast. Dry S'ly winds will continue across much of the
interior of the state and these winds will push though southern coastal areas
late in the day pushing the surface trough north-eastwards.
Forecast for Tuesday
Conditions will be fine across nearly all of the state as ridging firms
across southern and western Queensland. The surface trough will come to a halt
and extend from the Gulf country to the Central Coast area. Isolated showers may
develop near the trough about the Central and Herbert Burdekin coast where low
level winds will be moister. Isolated showers may develop along the far southern
coast south of Fraser Island in the onshore airstream.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
A new upper trough will amplify into central Australia on Wednesday and then
move into Qld on thursday. At the surface the high over south-eastern Australia
will continue to move eastwards. This will result in moist NE to N winds
spreading across the state during Wednesday and Thursday. So expect showers
and/or storms to develop across most eastern and central areas of the state on
these days and persist into Friday. .
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
