Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 6/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak surface trough will persist over the interior of the state. An upper
level trough has contracted off the southeast coast with conditions stabilising
over the state. A new upper level trough will enter western Queensland later
this evening.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Patchy rain clearing the southeast coast in the early hours. Widespread early
morning fogs over the central and southeast interior. Isolated afternoon showers
and possible late thunderstorms over the far southern interior. A fine day
elsewhere over western districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the
Gulf Country, mainly during the afternoon. A mostly fine day over eastern
districts with only isolated showers and possible, very isolated afternoon
thunderstorms. Moderate to fresh NW to NE winds along the east coast, tending
light to moderate SE to NE over the northern tropics. Moderate W to SW winds
over the interior, fresh at times over western districts during the afternoon. A
Very High fire danger over the Channel Country, Central West and Central
Highlands and Coalfields districts.
Forecast for Saturday
The new upper level trough will move rapidly east over the state and most
likely contract off the southeast coast in the late afternoon or evening.
Showers and thunderstorms will occur over areas southeast of about Rockhampton
to Cunnamulla, more widespread over southeast districts. A surface trough will
also move over central and southeast districts, contracting the shower and
thunderstorm activity east during the day. Isolated afternoon showers are likely
about the tropics. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are expected over
the Gulf of Carpentaria coast south of Weipa. Fine conditions are expected over
remaining parts of the state. A dry, fresh and gusty W to SW wind flow will
increase fire dangers over the central and southern tropical interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper trough should move east over the Coral Sea, stabilising conditions
over eastern Queensland. A new upper trough should approach the southwestern
border during the day, increasing cloud and generating some patchy rain over the
Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego districts. Isolated light showers are
likely over the northern tropics. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere under a
dry, stable airmass.
Forecast for Monday
Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the new upper trough but at this
stage the most likely scenario is for it to move rapidly east over the state,
extending a patchy thundery rain band over southern and central parts of the
state. A dry SW wind change should then follow the patchy rain band. Conditions
should remain fine over northern parts of the state apart from possible isolated
light showers over the Peninsula district.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The trough will most likely clear the southeast coast early Tuesday, with a
dry stable airmass generating fine conditions across much of the state in its
wake. Linger instability about the southeast of the state may produce isolated
showers about the far southeast. A new trough may approach the western border on
Wednesday, extending high cloud and patchy light rain over far western parts of
the state. The weak trough will most likely move further east over the interior
of the state on Thursday but any rainfall is expected to be minimal. A moist,
onshore flow may produce isolated showers about the east coast on Wednesday and
Thursday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
