MELBOURNE - Oct 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A low [994hPa] off the northwest coast of New Zealand will continue to move southeast and weaken. A high [1027hPa] near Tasmania extends a ridge over Queensland that will persist over eastern Queensland tomorrow. An upper trough will approach the west of the state late on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the eastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt, southern Wide Bay and Burnett district and the Southeast Coast district. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula. Fine over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the east coast. Forecast for Tuesday Cloud will thicken about the southwest of the state with patchy rain spreading to the Channel Country, but little rainfall is expected due to the dry lower levels of the atmosphere. The remainder of the state will be dry except for isolated showers about the eastern coast of Cape York Peninsula. Moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times about the east coast. A cool morning across the state with isolated early frosts about the northeast of the Maranoa and Granite Belt. A very high fire danger about the Gulf Country, Northwest, Central West and Central Highlands and Coalfields district. Forecast for Wednesday A surface trough should enter the southwest of the state and move slowly eastwards during the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will spread to thundery rain at times over the west of the state and extend in to the Central West and Maranoa and Warrego districts by the end of the day. Fine conditions are expected over the remainder of the state. Remaining cool over the east of the state with possible early frosts about the Granite Belt. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough should slow through the central interior but the upper level trough will continue to move east across the state. Early thundery rain areas east of a line from Mount Isa to Cunnamulla should tend to showers and thunderstorms during the day. Fine conditions should spread to the west of the state in the wake of the trough. Forecast for Friday Lingering instability about the far southeast of the state should lead to isolated showers and possible thunderstorms. The rest of the state should be mostly fine although afternoon cloud about the southern tropical and central coast may lead to some isolated showers. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday Thunderstorm and shower activity is likely to increase over the southeast region on Saturday in response to another upper level trough, while the rest of the state should be fine. Another upper trough is expected to move rapidly east across the continent on Sunday and Monday but the timing of this is uncertain. This trough may push another band of thundery rain east across the state during Sunday or Monday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
