MELBOURNE - Oct 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from Double Island Point to Point Danger for Monday morning. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A low [990hPa] off the in the central Tasman Sea will move southeast towards New Zealand. A high [1028hpa] high west of Tasmania extends a ridge over western Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated showers over the southeast with afternoon thunderstorms in the south. Isolated showers in the northern tropics, fine over the remainder of the state. Southerly winds easing about the southeast coast. Freshening E to SE winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior. Forecast for Tuesday As the low moves approaches New Zealand it will weaken. A ridge of high pressure will form over eastern Queensland, which will freshen SE winds over the tropics leading to strong winds about the NE tropical coast with isolated showers. Fine over the remainder of the state, however an approaching upper level trough from the west will increase higher cloud over the Channel Country with little or no rain. Some early frost possible over the Granite Belt. Forecast for Wednesday A surface trough will enter the SW of the state and progresses into the central interior late in the day. Thundery rain will spread across the southern interior from the southwest with lighter patchy rain reaching the western Darling Downs late in the day. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop on the trough over the southern tropics in the afternoon. It will be fine over the remainder of the state apart. Strong SE winds will ease about the northeast tropics as the coastal ridge weakens. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough will slow through the interior but the upper level trough will continue to move east. Thundery rain over the southern interior will extend east and weaken as patchy light rain over the southeast region. Showers and thunderstorms in general will develop over the southern tropics ahead of the inland trough. Isolated afternoon showers will develop further north and west into the Gulf country. Fine in the far west. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The upper level trough will clear the east coast early Friday morning. The surface trough will remain over the eastern interior and this will generate showers and thunderstorms over the southeast region in the afternoon. Showers will continue in the northwest and northeast on Thursday. Thunderstorm and shower activity increases over the southeast region for Saturday in response to another upper level trough, while the rest of the state should be fine. By Sunday the activity will decrease in the southeast to isolated showers, while cloud will increase in the far southwest as the next upper trough approaches.
