Double Island Point to Point Danger for Monday morning.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A low [990hPa] off the in the central Tasman Sea will move southeast towards
New Zealand. A high [1028hpa] high west of Tasmania extends a ridge over western
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers over the southeast with afternoon thunderstorms in the
south. Isolated showers in the northern tropics, fine over the remainder of the
state. Southerly winds easing about the southeast coast. Freshening E to SE
winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
As the low moves approaches New Zealand it will weaken. A ridge of high
pressure will form over eastern Queensland, which will freshen SE winds over the
tropics leading to strong winds about the NE tropical coast with isolated
showers. Fine over the remainder of the state, however an approaching upper
level trough from the west will increase higher cloud over the Channel Country
with little or no rain. Some early frost possible over the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Wednesday
A surface trough will enter the SW of the state and progresses into the
central interior late in the day. Thundery rain will spread across the southern
interior from the southwest with lighter patchy rain reaching the western
Darling Downs late in the day. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop
on the trough over the southern tropics in the afternoon. It will be fine over
the remainder of the state apart. Strong SE winds will ease about the northeast
tropics as the coastal ridge weakens.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough will slow through the interior but the upper level trough
will continue to move east. Thundery rain over the southern interior will extend
east and weaken as patchy light rain over the southeast region. Showers and
thunderstorms in general will develop over the southern tropics ahead of the
inland trough. Isolated afternoon showers will develop further north and west
into the Gulf country. Fine in the far west.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The upper level trough will clear the east coast early Friday morning. The
surface trough will remain over the eastern interior and this will generate
showers and thunderstorms over the southeast region in the afternoon. Showers
will continue in the northwest and northeast on Thursday. Thunderstorm and
shower activity increases over the southeast region for Saturday in response to
another upper level trough, while the rest of the state should be fine. By
Sunday the activity will decrease in the southeast to isolated showers, while
cloud will increase in the far southwest as the next upper trough
approaches.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
