MELBOURNE - Oct 2/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from Double Island Point to Point Danger. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A depression near 992hPa off the northeast coast of N.S.W will deepen and move further southeast. A high of about 1028hpa high west of Tasmania extends a ridge over western Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics this evening, some showers about the southern border of the southeast coast. Dry over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds across the tropics. Light to moderate S to SE winds over the interior. Moderate to fresh and gusty W to SW winds over the SE region. Winds shifting southerly about the southeast coast overnight and increasing to strong wind force. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers remaining over the southeast region in the afternoon with some thunderstorms towards the south. Isolated showers in the northern tropics, dry over the remainder of the state. Some early frost over the southeast interior. Southerly winds easing about the southeast coast. Freshening E to SE winds across the tropics. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the interior. Forecast for Tuesday As the depression moves further away off the east coast a ridge of higher pressure will form over eastern Queensland. This will freshen the SE winds further over the tropics leading to strong winds about the NE tropical coast with isolated showers. Dry over the remainder of the state, however an approaching upper level trough from the west will increase higher cloud over the Channel Country with little or no rain. Some early frost possible over the Granite Belt. Forecast for Wednesday A surface trough will enter the SW of the state and progresses into the central interior late in the day. Thundery rain spreading across the southern interior from the southwest with lighter patchy rain reaching the western Darling Downs late in the day. Showers and thunderstorms developing on the trough over the southern tropics in the afternoon. Fine over the remainder of the state apart from isolated early showers about the northeast tropical coast. Strong SE winds easing about the northeast tropics as the coastal ridge weakens. Forecast for Thursday The surface trough slows through the interior but the upper level trough continues to move east. Thundery rain over the southern interior extending east and weakening as patchy light rain over the southeast region. Showers and thunderstorms in general developing over the southern tropics ahead of the inland trough. Isolated afternoon showers remaining further north and west into the Gulf country. Dry over the west. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The upper level trough clears the east coast, contracting the thundery rain east as well by Friday morning. The surface trough remains over the eastern interior and this will generate showers and thunderstorms over the southeast region in the afternoon. Some showers remaining in the northwest and northeast but decreasing. Thunderstorm activity increases over the southeast region for Saturday, fine over the remainder of the state. By Sunday the activity decreases again to showers near the central coast and the southeast coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
