Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 2/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from
Double Island Point to Point Danger.

Weather Situation
A low pressure 998hPa off the northeast coast of N.S.W will deepen and move
to the southeast. A high over the eastern Great Australian Bight that is moving
towards Tasmania, extends a ridge into a western Queensland. An upper level
trough in far southeastern Queensland is slow moving.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Fine over most of the state. Isolated afternoon showers in the northern
tropics and isolated showers remaining near the southeast coast with possible
afternoon thunderstorms near the southern border. Light to moderate E to NE
winds across the tropics, light to moderate S to SE winds over the interior,
moderate to fresh W to SW winds over the SE region.
Forecast for Monday
The low will continue to deepen as it nears northern New Zealand, while the
high moves over Tasmania maintaining moderate to fresh southerly winds over the
southeast. The upper trough amplifies over southeast Queensland with isolated
showers and afternoon thunderstorms. Isolated showers in the northeast tropics.
Fine over the remainder of the state. Possible early frost over the Granite
Belt.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper trough moves into the Coral Sea stabilizing conditions in the
southeast with a return to fine weather. The high just to the east of Tasmania
will start to weaken but maintain across much of the state with fine weather
continuing across much of the state. Isolated showers in the far northern
tropics. The next upper trough will move towards western Queensland with light
rain possibly developing late in the day in far western Channel Country.
Possible early frost over the Granite Belt.
Forecast for Wednesday
The trough in the far west progresses further east with areas of thundery
rain extending east during the day reaching as east as the Central West and
Maranoa and Warrego. The high now in the far Tasman Sea will extend a ridge
across eastern Queensland with fine weather continuing.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The surface trough and associated upper level trough will progress east
contracting the thundery rain east as well, clearing the southeast coast by
Friday but isolated showers and thunderstorms will remain in the southeast
region Friday and Saturday. Fine over the remainder of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
