Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Fire Weather Warning is current for the Maranoa, Warrego,
Central West, Central Highlands and Coalfields,   Darling Downs, Capricornia and
western parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett for today. Strong Wind Warning has
been issued for coastal waters from Double Island Point to Point Danger,
including Moreton Bay.

Weather Situation
A low pressure centre is forming off the northeast coast of N.S.W with a
trough extending north through southeast Queensland. This low is expected to
intensify overnight with freshening W to SW winds over southeast Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers over the southeast interior this afternoon and evening with
a few thunderstorms near the southern border. Dry over the remainder of the
state apart from some isolated showers developing in the northern tropics this
evening. Light to moderate E to NE winds across the tropics. Moderate S to SW
winds over the interior tending to fresh to strong W to SW over the southeast
region. A very high to severe fire danger occurs over most districts through
eastern and southern Queensland for this evening.
Forecast for Sunday
Dry over most of the state, isolated afternoon showers in the northern
tropics and isolated showers remaining near the southeast coast with possible
afternoon thunderstorms near the southern border. Possible early frost over the
southeast interior. Light to moderate E to NE winds across the tropics, light to
moderate S to SE winds over the interior, moderate to fresh S to SW winds over
the SE region.  SW winds increasing about the SE coast overnight.
Forecast for Monday
The depression off the N.S.W coast moves further east while a ridge of higher
pressure forms along the east coast. Little change in the overall weather across
Queensland from Sunday. Isolated showers in the northeast tropics, isolated
showers again over the southeast region with isolated afternoon thunderstorms
further south. Dry over the remainder of the state. Possible early frost over
the southeast interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The next trough moves into western Queensland from the Northern Territory
later in the day with little or no rain.  Fine over the remainder of the state
except in the northeast tropics with isolated showers. The ridge of higher
pressure persisting about the east coast. Some remaining early frost on the
Granite Belt.
Forecast for Wednesday
The trough in the far west progresses further east with areas of thundery
rain reaching the Warrego and Central West later in the day. Decreasing showers
in the northeast tropics, fine over the remainder of the state.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The surface trough and associated upper level trough will progress east
contracting the thundery rain east as well, clearing the southeast coast by
Friday but isolated showers and thunderstorms will remain in the southeast
region Friday afternoon. Eventually the weather reduces down to isolated showers
near the southeast coast on Saturday. Fine over the remainder of the state.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
