Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Fire Weather Warning is current for the Maranoa and Warrego,
Central West, Central Highlands and Coalfields, and southern parts of Northern
Goldfields and Upper Flinders for Saturday.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for coastal waters from Double Island
Point to Point Danger, including Moreton Bay.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Great Australian Bight extends dry W to SW winds over much of
Queensland. An upper level trough lies over the southeast interior, while a
surface trough should move across eastern Queensland during Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Fine and dry over most of the state, except for some isolated showers and
storms about the southern border regions, and some isolated light showers about
the Torres Strait Islands and northern parts of Cape York Peninsula. Light to
moderate northerly winds over eastern districts ahead of the surface trough, and
dry with fresh to strong westerly winds behind the trough. Gustier winds over
the southern half of the state will lead to very high to severe fire danger in
numerous districts [see the current Fire Weather Warning]. Light to moderate SW
to SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Sunday
A low should have formed off the northeast coast of New South Wales, and is
expected to produce fresh to strong SW'ly winds over southern Queensland waters
and showers or areas of patchy rain over Queensland's far southeast. Fine and
dry through the remainder of the state. Lighter, mainly moderate SW to SE winds
throughout the state, and reduced fire danger through the southern and central
interior. The chance of some isolated light frosts about more frost prone
regions in the southeast interior.
Forecast for Monday
The low should be well off the New South Wales coast in the Tasman Sea, while
a high will lie near Tasmania. The two weather systems will push fresh to
strong S'ly wind winds, scattered showers and an increasing S'ly swell over the
southeast coast and southern Queensland waters. Fine and dry over the remainder
of the state, except for some isolated light showers over Torres Strait. The
chance of some isolated light frosts about more frost prone regions in the
southeast interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
A high will remain near Tasmania, and the low will be well away from
Australia. Fine conditions throughout the state. The chance of some isolated
light frosts again about more frost prone regions in the southeast interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
A weak upper level trough will work with a surface trough to produce areas of
patchy and mainly light thundery rain over western and central Queensland by the
middle of the week, possibly contracting into the southeast late in the week.
Remaining fine over the northeast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
