Forecast for the rest of Thursday Thundery rain areas moving east over southern and central parts of the state south of about Clermont, clearing off the coast during the afternoon. Some moderate falls likely over the southern Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts this morning. Isolated afternoon showers developing in the wake of the rain band over southeast and central districts, contracting to the coast by the evening. Fine over the remainder of the state apart from isolated light showers over the far northern Peninsula. Cool temperatures under the cloud in the southeast and also in the dry, gusty W to SW wind flow over western districts. Moderate to fresh and gusty N to NW winds over central and southeast districts, tending W to SW wind from the west in the afternoon and evening. Light to moderate mostly SE to NE winds in the tropics. Very High fire danger in Northwest, Central West, Maranoa and Warrego, and Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Forecast for Friday The surface trough will move off the central Queensland coast in the morning. Cool, dry W to SW winds will extend over much of the state in its wake. Conditions will be fine across the state apart from isolated light showers in the far northeast. A new trough will approach southwestern Queensland in the evening. Forecast for Saturday The new trough will move east over southern parts of the state and contract off the southeast coast late in the day. Fresh to strong and gusty W to SW winds will extend over the southern and central interior in the wake of the trough, with very dry and windy conditions increasing fire dangers. The trough will greatly increase instability near the southern border, with showers and isolated thunderstorms expected. Isolated light showers will persist over the far northeast tropics. Fine conditions will continue over the remainder of the state. A surface low will most likely develop off the northeast New South Wales coast late in the day, extending a fresh to possibly strong SW wind flow into far southern Queensland waters at night. Forecast for Sunday The low off the northeast New South Wales coast should move further east into the Tasman Sea as a high moves east over southeastern Australia. Fresh to strong SW'ly winds will most likely continue to extend over southern Queensland waters. Winds should ease slightly through the southern and central interior, reducing fire dangers. The upper level trough will continue to generate unstable conditions in the far south, with isolated showers and thunderstorms expected over the southern border ranges and Gold Coast. The high will extend a ridge and fine conditions over the remainder of the state. Mid level cloud will develop over the far west ahead of a new trough entering central Australia. Cool temperatures are expected over the southern interior in the S'ly wind flow. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday The high will move further east into the Tasman Sea, pushing the low east towards New Zealand during the outlook period. Strong S'ly winds will gradually ease along southern Queensland waters though winds will strengthen along the northeast tropical coast. The upper level trough will continue to generate unstable conditions over the southeast on Monday before contracting off the coast in the evening. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms are therefore likely over the southeast on Monday, with shower activity contracting to the coast from Tuesday. Isolated showers will develop along remaining parts of the east coast from Wednesday as moisture increases. A new trough will most likely enter western Queensland on Wednesday, with patchy light rain occurring near the western border ahead of the trough and a thundery rain band possibly entering the west with the trough on Wednesday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Thursday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
