Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 28/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system over Bass Strait will track southeastwards then deepen to the east of Tasmania later on Thursday and Friday. Another low pressure trough is expected to cross Victoria late Friday and early Saturday before it deepens off the central New South Wales coast on Saturday night. A high pressure system will move towards Tasmania on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayShowers, widespread at times over southern and mountain areas and tending to rain with heavy falls on the Northeast highlands this morning. Local thunderstorms, mostly in the north and east but also possible in the southwest. Snowfalls developing down to 1300 metres developing over the Alps during the afternoon. A cool day with freshening northwest to westerly winds, tending southwesterly from the west and strengthening along the coast.Friday 30 SeptemberScattered showers tending more isolated over the northwest. Showers falling as snow above 1200m over the Alps. A cool day with moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong about the Gippsland coast in the morning. Winds tending southwesterly in the west later in the day.Saturday 1 OctoberScattered showers with local hail possible in the south. Showers tending more isolated over the northwest and falling as snow above 1200m over the Alps. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh southerly winds.Sunday 2 OctoberScattered showers in the southeast, becoming isolated near remaining coastal districts and clearing from the west. Snow showers above 1100 metres in the Alpine area. Moderate southeasterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDV10310
