Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 25/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters
south of Sandy Cape.

Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure is weakening about the east coast whilst an area of
low pressure occurs off the northeast coast of New South Wales. A trough extends
from the low towards the Wide Bay coast this morning and is expected to move
north through the central coast this afternoon.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Fine over most of the state apart from some early fog about the east coast
and possible isolated showers near the Gold Coast. Light to moderate SE winds
about the east coast tending NE/NW towards the south. Fresh to strong SW to SE
winds developing north from the southeast coast. Light to moderate SE winds over
the interior. A very high fire danger in the Central West district.
Forecast for Tuesday
The coastal trough will move north into the southern tropics with isolated
showers. Isolated showers generally developing about the northeast tropics.
Generally fine over the state apart from little or no rain with isolated
thunderstorms developing in the Channel Country later in the day. Rather hot
over western districts with Northerly winds.
Forecast for Wednesday
A new trough or wind change will move east from the Channel Country with
patchy thundery rain. Very hot conditions ahead of the change with gusty NW
winds and severe fire danger across southern and western Queensland. Fine over
the remainder of the state apart from isolated showers about the northeast
tropical coast.
Forecast for Thursday
The surface trough is expected to move into the northwest, eastern interior
and the Darling Downs. Patchy thundery rain clearing the southwest of the state
but contracting east across southern Queensland and into the southeast. Very
warm to hot ahead of the change over eastern districts with strong NW winds
developing about the southeast coast. As the thundery rain contracts to the east
coast, some showers may remain over the Darling Downs district. Little change
over the northeast tropics.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The coastal trough has cleared the southeast coast and moves north along the
central coast before falling back to the Wide Bay region later on Friday.
Showers now confined north of the trough over the northeast tropics. A new
trough will progress across southern Queensland from the west and reach the
southeast region on Saturday with isolated showers and thunderstorms near the
southern border. The weather clears again over the southeast for Sunday with
showers contracting north in the tropics.

Monday.
