Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 24/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters
south of Double Island point.

Weather Situation
A ridge of higher pressure is weakening about the east coast. An inland
trough will reach the southern coast this evening then move north to the central
coast on Monday. A surface low will form off the N.S.W coast.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers near the southern border of the southeast coast this morning
and possible showers about the northeast tropical coast. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms developing over the southeast coastal district this afternoon,
contracting east this evening. Dry over the remainder of the state. Moderate to
fresh SE winds over the tropics, light to moderate E/SE winds about the east
coast tending NW/NE on the southeast coast and freshening. Moderate S/SW winds
over the interior. A very high fire danger for the Central West and Maranoa and
Warrego districts.
Forecast for Monday
The coastal trough should weaken and move north onto the Capricorn coast. The
inland trough reaching the southern tropics before stalling. Dry over the state
apart from some isolated showers near the Gold Coast. Strong  southerly winds
off the southeast coast. Maximum temperatures will again be well above average
over the interior. Hot conditions will develop in the far southwest as northerly
winds increase ahead of the next surface trough.
Forecast for Tuesday
The coastal trough continues to drift north developing isolated showers about
the central coast and the southern tropical coast. Remaining fine over the
remainder of the state. A new trough will enter the Channel Country with no
weather. Very hot ahead of this change with NW winds.
Forecast for Wednesday
The western trough or wind change will move across western districts with
thundery rain. Very hot conditions ahead of the change with gusty NW winds and
near extreme fire weather conditions. Isolated showers persisting over the
northeast tropics. Fine over the remainder of the state.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
Thursday, surface trough should reach the northwest of the state and the
eastern interior as well as move through the Darling Downs. Thundery rain
clearing the southwest but contracting to the southern and southeast interior.
No change in the tropics, strong NW winds developing on the southeast coast.
Friday, showers decreasing over the northeast tropics, fine over the remainder
of the state after the trough passage. Saturday, a new trough moves across
southern Queensland generating some showers and thunderstorms in the southeast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Sunday.
