MELBOURNE - Sep 24/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weakening high off the coast of New South Wales extends a weak ridge along the Queensland coast. A surface trough over the interior of the state will move east and through the Southeast Coast district during Sunday evening. An upper trough over southeast Australia will move across New South Wales on Sunday, increasing instability about southeast Queensland. A surface low will develop off the northern New South Wales coast on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Isolated showers about the Maranoa, southern Central Highlands and Coalfields, Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts, which may extend into western parts of the Wide Bay and Southeast Coast districts. Isolated thunderstorms are also possible about the southern Border Ranges. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. Fine over the remainder of the state. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast north of about Mackay with light to moderate NE winds about the coast to the south. Light to moderate SE to E winds over the northern interior with light to moderate S to SW winds over the southern interior. Forecast for Sunday Overnight shower activity may linger about parts of the southeast of state early in the day. Scattered showers are then expected to develop during the day about the southeast of the state with isolated thunderstorms, chiefly in the afternoon. Remaining fine over the rest of the state after some early fog patches about the central and southern tropical coasts. Moderate to fresh NE to NW winds in southern waters ahead of a fresh to strong southerly change extending from the south in the evening. Moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere with fresh SE winds about the tropical east coast. Maximum temperatures are expected to be several degrees above average over much of the interior of the state. A very high fire danger for the Central West and Maranoa and Warrego districts. Forecast for Monday The coastal trough should move slowly north along the southern coast, reaching the Capricornia coast late in the day, with fresh to strong S to SE winds in its wake. Isolated showers are expected about the coast and adjacent inland near and south of the trough. Fine over the remainder of Queensland after some early fog patches about the central and southern tropical coasts. Maximum temperatures are expected to be several degrees above average over much of the interior of the state. Forecast for Tuesday The coastal trough should weaken on the central coast but is likely to produce isolated showers about the Wide Bay, Capricornia and Central coasts. The coastal ridge will continue to build in the wake of the trough with freshening SE winds about the tropical coast. Fine over the remainder of the state. Maximum temperatures will again be well above average over the interior. Hot conditions will develop in the far southwest as northerly winds increase ahead of the next surface trough, which should enter the far southwest of the state late in the day. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough should penetrate further into the southwest of the state as the next upper trough moves across southern Australia. A band of thundery rain is expected to push into the Channel Country and move east into the Maranoa and Warrego district. Fresh to strong and hot N to NW winds are expected over the western and southern interior ahead of the trough leading to severe fire dangers. Isolated showers are expected about the northeast of the state as moisture levels increase. Fine conditions over the remainder of the state. Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday The surface trough should reach eastern Queensland on Thursday with the band of thundery rain pushing east through southern districts and clearing off the southeast coast during Thursday night. Most of the state should then be fine and noticeably cooler on Friday and Saturday, although showers will continue about the far northeast of the state throughout the outlook period.
