web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weakening high off the coast of New South Wales extends a weak ridge along
the Queensland coast. A surface trough over the interior of the state will move
east and through the Southeast Coast district during Sunday evening. An upper
trough over southeast Australia will move across New South Wales on Sunday,
increasing instability about southeast Queensland. A surface low will develop
off the northern New South Wales coast on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers about the Maranoa, southern Central Highlands and
Coalfields, Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts, which may extend into
western parts of the Wide Bay and Southeast Coast districts. Isolated
thunderstorms are also possible about the southern Border Ranges. Isolated
showers about the northeast tropical coast. Fine over the remainder of the
state. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast north of about Mackay
with light to moderate NE winds about the coast to the south. Light to moderate
SE to E winds over the northern interior with light to moderate S to SW winds
over the southern interior.
Forecast for Sunday
Overnight shower activity may linger about parts of the southeast of state
early in the day. Scattered showers are then expected to develop during the day
about the southeast of the state with isolated thunderstorms, chiefly in the
afternoon. Remaining fine over the rest of the state after some early fog
patches about the central and southern tropical coasts. Moderate to fresh NE to
NW winds in southern waters ahead of a fresh to strong southerly change
extending from the south in the evening. Moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere with
fresh SE winds about the tropical east coast. Maximum temperatures are expected
to be several degrees above average over much of the interior of the state. A
very high fire danger for the Central West and Maranoa and Warrego
districts.
Forecast for Monday
The coastal trough should move slowly north along the southern coast,
reaching the Capricornia coast late in the day, with fresh to strong S to SE
winds in its wake. Isolated showers are expected about the coast and adjacent
inland near and south of the trough. Fine over the remainder of Queensland
after some early fog patches about the central and southern tropical coasts.
Maximum temperatures are expected to be several degrees above average over much
of the interior of the state.
Forecast for Tuesday
The coastal trough should weaken on the central coast but is likely to
produce isolated showers about the Wide Bay, Capricornia and Central coasts. The
coastal ridge will continue to build in the wake of the trough with freshening
SE winds about the tropical coast. Fine over the remainder of the state. Maximum
temperatures will again be well above average over the interior. Hot conditions
will develop in the far southwest as northerly winds increase ahead of the next
surface trough, which should enter the far southwest of the state late in the
day.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough should penetrate further into the southwest of the state
as the next upper trough moves across southern Australia. A band of thundery
rain is expected to push into the Channel Country and move east into the Maranoa
and Warrego district. Fresh to strong and hot N to NW winds are expected over
the western and southern interior ahead of the trough leading to severe fire
dangers. Isolated showers are expected about the northeast of the state as
moisture levels increase. Fine conditions over the remainder of the state.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The surface trough should reach eastern Queensland on Thursday with the band
of thundery rain pushing east through southern districts and clearing off the
southeast coast during Thursday night. Most of the state should then be fine and
noticeably cooler on Friday and Saturday, although showers will continue about
the far northeast of the state throughout the outlook period.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
