Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 23/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Cooktown.

Weather Situation
A high off the coast of New South Wales extends a weakening ridge along the
Queensland coast. A surface trough occurs over  the interior of the state and
will move slowly east tomorrow.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Some isolated showers about the about the northeast tropical coast overnight
otherwise fine over the remainder of the state. Strong SE winds continuing north
of Cooktown. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the rest of the east coast tending
to light to moderate NE winds on the southeast coast. Light to moderate SE to NE
winds over the interior.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers developing over the southeast region in the afternoon with
some possible thunderstorms near  the Granite Belt. Some isolated showers
remaining about the northeast tropical coast. Fine over the remainder of the
state. Moderate to fresh SE winds about the east coast tending light to moderate
NE winds on the southeast coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the
interior. A high fire danger in the west.
Forecast for Sunday
The trough moves through the southeast coast while the inland trough reaches
the northwest of the state and the central interior. Some early showers near the
southern border over the southeast tending to scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms in the afternoon over the greater southeast region.  Remaining
fine over the remainder of the state.
Forecast for Monday
The surface trough moving slowly north into the Capricorn coast with showers.
Isolated showers persisting over the southeast region generally. Fine over the
remainder of Queensland apart from isolated showers in the northern tropics. The
inland trough stalls then falls back to the southwest as a coastal ridge of high
pressure forms.
Forecast for Tuesday
The coastal trough weakens on the central coast but still generates showers.
The coastal ridge continues to build overall with freshening SE winds and
increasing showers. Showers now decreasing on the southeast coast. Fine over the
interior as the inland trough continues to fall back. Becoming very hot in the
far west with northerly winds.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Wednesday, a new rough enters the southwest of the state in the afternoon
with showers and thunderstorms. Very hot ahead of the change with gusty NW winds
and near extreme fire danger. Showers about the NE tropical coast and the
central coast. Fine over the SE over the state. Thursday, the trough, or SW wind
change,  reaches eastern Queensland and the southeast coast in the evening.
Rather hot ahead of the change with gusty NW winds and near extreme fire danger.
Showers and thunderstorms associated with the trough over southern districts and
the greater southeast region. Sowers decreasing about the remainder of the east
coast. Friday, the trough clearing the SE coast but reaching the Capricorn coast
in the evening with showers. The inland trough also reaching the NW of the state
and over the eastern interior. Dry over the southeast region with easing SW
winds and reducing fire danger.

Saturday.
