Weather Situation
A weak surface trough occurs on the Capricorn coast and is moving slowly
north. A high will form off the NE coast of N.S.W developing a ridge along the
Queensland east coast. A trough over the interior will move back west.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated afternoon showers about the central coast otherwise fine over the
remainder of Queensland. Strong SE winds developing north of Cape Tribulation by
the afternoon.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move further east with the ridge weakening a little about the
east coast. Strong winds contracting to Cooktown. Fine over the state apart from
isolated afternoon showers about the central coast and southern tropics as the
coastal trough moves north. The inland trough moving a little west but shifting
back east across southern Queensland.
Forecast for Saturday
The high continues to weaken along with the coastal ridge. Strong winds
remaining north of Cooktown. Isolated showers extending into the southern
tropics on the east coast. Isolated afternoon showers developing over the SE
interior as the trough moves east into the Darling Downs. Fine over the
remainder of the state.

As the coastal ridge weakens the winds ease ending the strong winds about the
NE tropical coast. As an upper level trough approaches from the west,
instability increases over SE Queensland. The surface trough moves through the
SE region and generates showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Some isolated showers in the northern tropics and about the central coast. Fine
over the interior.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Monday, the coastal trough moves near Fraser island and stalls. Instability
decreases over the SE region with isolated showers and no thunderstorms. The
inland trough stalls then moves back west again. Isolated showers about the NE
tropics, fine over the remainder of the state. Tuesday, the inland trough
continues to fall back west with hot NW winds developing. Isolated showers
persisting about the SE region, mainly coastal, fine over the remainder of the
state. Wednesday, very hot in the west with gusty NW winds and near extreme fire
danger. Showers increasing in the NE tropics but decreasing in the SE of the
