For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough currently extends from the Gulf Country to the Wide Bay. The
trough will slowly move north along the coast and weaken. A high over far
western New South Wales will move east towards the northeast New South Wales
coast on Thursday and extend a ridge up the Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers over the eastern Wide Bay and Burnett and into the
Capricornia and Central Highlands and Coalfields. Possible isolated
thunderstorms near the Wide Bay coast. Fine over the remainder of the state.
Moderate to fresh S to SE winds over western districts, and the southeast and
Wide Bay coasts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere, fresh at times over
the northeast tropical coast. A Very High fire danger over the Gulf Country,
Northwest, Central West and Maranoa and Warrego Districts.
Forecast for Thursday
Light coastal showers along parts of the Central and Capricornia coasts.
SE'ly winds will strengthen along the northeast tropical coast north of Cooktown
late in the day, with isolated light showers moving on to the coast in the
onshore wind flow. Fine conditions over the remainder of the state, with daytime
temperatures again climbing to above the September average over the southern
interior.
Forecast for Friday
The weakening high off the northeast New South Wales coast will maintain the
ridge over the east Queensland coast. The ridge will be further reinforced by a
second, larger high moving east over the Great Australian Bight. Strong SE winds
will persist along the east coast north of Cooktown. Isolated light showers are
expected over the northeast tropics and central coast. Conditions will remain
fine elsewhere over the state. Daytime temperatures will increase further over
southern and western Queensland.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move further east towards Tasmania, maintaining the ridge along
the east Queensland coast. Strong SE winds are expected along the east coast
north of Cooktown at first but will likely ease late. Isolated light showers are
expected over the northeast tropical coast in the onshore wind flow. A surface
trough and an associated SE'ly wind change will move north along the New South
Wales coast. Daytime temperatures will continue to be above the September
average through much of western districts and the southeastern interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high will move into the southern Tasman Sea maintaining a ridge over
northeastern Queensland. An upper level trough coupled with the approaching
surface trough will increase instability and chances of showers in the
southeast. Fine throughout the rest of the state apart from isolated showers in
the far northern peninsula. Daytime temperatures will continue to be above the
September average through much of western districts and the southeastern
interior.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high will continue to move east over the southern Tasman Sea maintaining
a weak ridge along much of the east Queensland coast. Isolated light showers
will occur over the northeast tropical coast in the onshore wind flow.
Conditions will remain fine over the interior with very warm to hot daytime
temperatures expected over western districts. Cloud will possibly increase in
the far southwest late Tuesday or early Wednesday ahead of a new trough system
moving east over central Australia. Very isolated showers or thunderstorms are
possible with this system in the far southwest.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
