MELBOURNE - Sep 19/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Fire Weather Warning is current for eastern parts of the
Maranoa and Warrego and southern parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt
district.

including Moreton Bay, for late this afternoon and evening.

Weather Situation
A weakening ridge of high pressure extends along the east coast of
Queensland. A surface trough and an associated cooler S'ly wind change lies over
western Queensland and will move east over the state today to extend from the
Gulf Country to the eastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt district late
tonight. Dry, warm and gusty N'ly winds ahead of the trough will produce Very
High to locally Severe Fire Dangers over the eastern Maranoa and Warrego and
southern Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts today.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated light showers over the far northern tropics. Early morning fog
patches over eastern districts. Afternoon cloud and possible elevated gusty
thunderstorms over the southern interior east of Charleville though with little
or no rain. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the tropics,
fresh at times along the far northeast tropical coast. Warm with moderate NE to
NW winds elsewhere, fresh and gusty at times over southern districts ahead of a
cooler S'ly wind change extending over the interior from the west. Very High to
locally Severe fire dangers over the eastern Maranoa and Warrego and southern
Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. A Very High fire danger over the
Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders, Northwest, Central West, Southeast
Coast, and remaining parts of the Maranoa and Warrego and Darling Downs and
Granite Belt Districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The surface trough will contract off the southeast coast in the morning. An
associated cooler SE'ly wind change will then move north over the southern
Queensland coast, reaching southern Capricornia waters at night and possibly
generating isolated light showers with its passage. Early morning fog patches
will occur over eastern districts. Fine conditions are expected elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
The SE wind change will continue moving north over the Capricorn coast,
generating isolated light showers with its passage. A new high will lie near the
northeast New South Wales coast and extend a ridge through southern Queensland
and along the east coast. SE'ly winds will strengthen along the northeast
tropical coast north of Cooktown late in the day, with isolated light showers
moving on to the coast in the onshore wind flow. The ridge will maintain fine
conditions over the remainder of the state, with daytime temperatures again
climbing to be well above the September average over the southern interior.
Forecast for Friday
The high off the northeast New South Wales coast will maintain the ridge over
the east Queensland coast. The ridge will be further reinforced by a second,
larger high moving east over the Great Australian Bight. Strong SE winds will
persist along the east coast north of Cooktown. Isolated light showers are
expected over the northeast tropics. Isolated showers are also likely on the
central coast but should clear during the afternoon. Conditions will remain fine
elsewhere over the state. A mid level trough will generate some afternoon cloud
in a band from northwestern Queensland into the southeastern interior. Daytime
temperatures will increase further over southern Queensland.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The new high will move east over southeastern Australia and into the Tasman
Sea during the outlook period, maintaining a ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. Isolated light showers will occur over the northeast tropical coast
in the fresh onshore wind flow. A surface trough will most likely approach the
southern Queensland coast from New South Wales late Saturday or early Sunday.
This trough and its associated fresh SE'ly wind change is then expected to move
north over the southern Queensland coast, generating isolated showers.
Conditions will remain fine over the interior with very warm to hot daytime
temperatures expected over western districts.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
