MELBOURNE - Sep 18/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for southern parts of the Channel Country and western parts of the Maranoa and Warrego forecast districts for Monday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends along the east coast of Queensland. The ridge is expected to weaken over the next couple of days. A trough will enter southwestern Queensland later this evening. Hot, dry and gusty northerly winds ahead of the trough will increase the fire danger over southwestern Queensland on Monday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated light showers over the far northern tropics. Morning drizzle areas on the southern tropical and central coasts and adjacent inland. Early morning fogs about the Capricornia district and on the Wide Bay coast. Fine over the remainder of the state with areas of smoke haze in the southeast. A hot, dry and gusty northerly wind flow will cause severe fire dangers over the southern Channel Country and western Maranoa and Warrego districts. Very warm elsewhere over southern and central parts of the state with moderate to fresh NE to NW winds. Light to moderate SE to NE winds in the tropics, fresh at times along the northeast tropical coast. A very high fire danger over the Central West, Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Darling Downs and Granite Belt, Wide Bay and Burnett, and Southeast Coast forecast districts. Forecast for Tuesday The surface trough will move east over the interior of the state and will most likely generate some afternoon and evening cloud over the southern and southeast interior east of Charleville. There is possible enough instability to generate isolated thunderstorms within this cloud but little or no rainfall is expected due to continuing dry surface conditions. Early morning fogs will once again occur over eastern districts north of about the Sunshine Coast, with possible early light drizzle on the Central Coast. Isolated light showers will persist over Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Conditions will remain fine over the remainder of the state. Cooler S'ly winds will extend over the Channel Country. Fresh N to NW winds ahead of the trough, strong over southeast coastal waters, will maintain very warm to hot temperatures and very high fire dangers elsewhere over southern parts of the state. Forecast for Wednesday The surface trough will most likely contract off the southeast coast in the morning with little or no rainfall expected. The trough and associated cooler SE'ly wind change will then move north over the southern Queensland coast, reaching Fraser Island at night. Early morning fog patches will occur over eastern districts. Conditions will remain fine elsewhere over the state apart from isolated light showers over Torres Strait. Forecast for Thursday The SE wind change will continue moving north into Capricornia waters and will generate isolated light showers before weakening late in the day. A new high will lie near the northeast New South Wales coast and extend a ridge into southern Queensland and along the northeast tropical coast. SE'ly winds will strengthen along the northeast tropical coast north of Cooktown, with isolated light showers moving on to the coast in the onshore wind flow. The ridge will maintain fine conditions over the remainder of the state, with daytime temperatures again climbing to be well above the September average over the southern interior. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday The high will move slowly east into the Tasman Sea during the outlook period, maintaining the ridge and fine conditions across much of the state. Fresh to strong SE'ly winds and isolated light showers will continue along the northeast tropical coast. Early morning fog patches will continue to occur over eastern districts. Very warm to hot daytime temperatures will occur over western districts and the southeast interior. A surface trough and an associated SE'ly wind change will move north over the southeast Queensland coast during the weekend generating isolated showers. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Monday. Weather & WarningsAustraliaNew South WalesVictoriaQueenslandWarnings SummaryForecastsBrisbane ForecastQld.
