Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 18/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the state will move to the Tasman Sea early Monday. A strong cold front will cross the Bight to reach western Victoria Monday afternoon, central Victoria Monday evening then extend to the far east by early Tuesday morning. Cooler westerly flow will follow on Tuesday then a high pressure system is expected to cross New South Wales on Wednesday. Another cold front is forecast to reach western Victoria Thursday afternoon.
Forecast for the rest of SundayClear with light winds and moderating coastal seabreezes.Monday 19 SeptemberDry and mostly sunny at first with warm to very warm northerly winds freshening from the west during the morning and locally reaching gale force about elevated areas. Rain areas and the chance of local thunderstorms developing from the west in the afternoon, mainly affecting southern and mountain districts in association with a cooler gusty westerly wind change. The wind change is forecast to reach eastern districts at night. Scattered showers behind the change over the southwest.Tuesday 20 SeptemberScattered showers over the southwest and about the northeast ranges, with only isolated showers over remaining southern and mountain districts. Snow showers above 1200 metres. Shower activity contracting to the southwestern and central coasts at night. Remaining dry over the northwest. Generally cool with a fresh westerly wind.Wednesday 21 SeptemberIsolated showers over the southwest and near the central coast, clearing later. Remaining dry but partly cloudy elsewhere. Cool to mild with mainly moderate west to northwesterly winds.Thursday 22 SeptemberEarly fog patches over the northeast then a mostly sunny start to the day. Warm northwesterly winds shifting cooler west to southwesterly over western and central districts during the afternoon and evening. Cloud increasing ahead of the change with isolated showers developing over southern and mountain districts.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Monday.Product IDV10310
