Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 16/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Cooktown.
Strong Wind Warning has been cancelled northeast Gulf waters near Torres
Strait.

Weather Situation
A weak high pressure cell over southeast Queensland extends a ridge north
along the east coast. The high and ridge are both expected to weaken over the
next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Generally dry throughout apart from very isolated showers about the northeast
tropical coast. Some early fog about the central to Wide Bay coasts. A little
early frost over the Granite Belt this morning. Very warm to hot in the west and
across the southern interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high pressure system moves further east and weakens with much the same
weather. Very isolated showers in the northeast tropics and early fog again on
the central to Wide Bay coasts. Some early morning drizzle may develop over the
southern tropics near the coast. Dry throughout the interior, rather hot in the
west and through southern Queensland in the afternoon. Strong SE winds
persisting about the northeast tropical coast.
Forecast for Monday
A new surface trough enters the far west with no weather. Very hot over the
Channel Country ahead of this southerly wind change. Continuing dry over the
interior, early drizzle again about the coast in the southern tropics as a upper
level trough approaches from the west. Early fog again on the central coast
south to the Wide Bay region. Little change over the northeast tropics although
winds have finally eased.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface trough enters the central interior with cooler temperatures over
the west associated with southerly winds. Very hot just ahead of the change over
the interior with NW winds. Little change in the weather on the east coast with
early drizzle or fog and little change over the tropics.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Wednesday, the surface trough moves through the SE coast with cooler
southerly winds but slows over the eastern interior and about the southern Gulf.
Early drizzle has now ended but morning fog persists on the Capricorn to Wide
Bay coasts. No change in the northern tropics. Thursday, the trough weakens and
falls back over the interior. Isolated showers redevelop about the east coast
with cooler SE winds. Friday, isolated showers about the east coast, dry over
the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
