Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 14/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from
Torres Strait to Cairns.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for Northeast Gulf waters north of Cullen
Point.

Weather Situation
A ridge axis occurs across southern Queensland from west to east and will
weaken slowly over the next
few days.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers about the northeast tropics and near the central coast. Fine
conditions over the remainder of the state. Strong SE winds along the northeast
tropical coast north of Cairns and through far northeastern Gulf waters,
Generally light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
The broad band of high pressure will remain over southern Queensland. Strong
SE winds along the northeast tropical coast north of Cape Tribulation and
through far northeastern Gulf waters. Isolated showers from the northeast
tropics to the Whitsundays. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
The high pressure belt continues to weaken over southern Queensland, very
warm over the interior with northerly winds. Strong SE winds along the northeast
tropical coast north of Cooktown and through far northeastern Gulf waters.
Isolated showers about the northeast tropics. Fine elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge of high pressure weaken further but strong SE winds remain north of
Cooktown and in the northern Gulf. Strong SE winds along the northeast tropical
coast north of Cooktown and through far northeastern Gulf waters. Isolated
showers about the northeast tropics.  Fine elsewhere, very warm temperatures
spreading across southern Queensland and southeast Queensland.
Forecast for Sunday
Sowers confined to the northeast tropics, fine over the remainder of the
state. Becoming hot in the west and across the southern interior with northerly
winds. Very warm over southeast Queensland.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
Monday, reduced showers in the northeast tropics, showers redeveloping about
the central coast overnight. Continuing fine over the remainder of the state.
Tuesday, very isolated showers in the northeast tropics, scattered showers
about the central coast. A dry, cooler southwesterly wind change moving east
from the west. Rather hot ahead of the change with northwest winds. Wednesday,
the inland trough or wind change weakens as it enters  eastern districts. Cooler
in the west, very warm in the east.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
