MELBOURNE - Sep 12/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from Torres Strait to Cairns. A Strong Wind Warning is current for Southeast Gulf waters. A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Northeast Gulf waters north of Cullen Point for Tuesday. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A large high [1031hPa] over the South Australia extends a ridge into Queensland. The high will move towards southern Queensland over the next few days, maintaining a ridge and dry conditions over much of the state. A surface trough will move north over the southern Queensland coast tonight and onto the Capricornia coast on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of Monday Isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait, also developing on the Gold Coast this evening. Fine and dry elsewhere. Moderate to fresh and gusty S to SE winds in the tropics and northwest. Mostly moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere, freshening along the far southern coast late afternoon and evening. Forecast for Tuesday Isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula and about the Capricornia, Wide Bay and Southeast coasts, clearing south of Fraser Island in the afternoon. Fine and cool conditions elsewhere with early frost areas over the southeastern interior. Fresh to strong SE in the far north, tending mostly light to moderate S to SE elsewhere. Forecast for Wednesday A broad area of high pressure will extend over southern Queensland. Strong SE winds along the northeast tropical coast north of Cairns and through far northeastern Gulf waters. Isolated showers along the east coast north of Ingham and around the Central and Capricornia coasts. Fine conditions elsewhere with isolated early frost patches about the southeast interior. Daytime temperatures rising closer to September average over southern districts. Forecast for Thursday The broad area of high pressure will remain over southern Queensland. Strong SE winds along the northeast tropical coast north of Cairns and through far northeastern Gulf waters. Isolated showers along the northeast tropical coast and the Whitsundays. Fine elsewhere. Forecast for Friday The broad area of high pressure will move over southeastern Queensland. Strong SE winds along the northeast tropical coast north of Cooktown and through far northeastern Gulf waters. Isolated showers along the northeast tropical coast. Fine elsewhere. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The high centre moves into the Tasman Sea on Saturday. Fresh to strong SE'ly winds and isolated showers will continue along the east tropical coast. Fine conditions elsewhere due to the dry, stable airmass associated with the ridge. Daytime temperatures to rise above the September average over southern districts. Minimum temperatures will remain generally below average, though frosts are not expected. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Tuesday.
