Warning Summary at issue time A Strong Wind Warning is current for Southeast Gulf waters. A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters from Torres Strait to Cairns. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A large high [1034hPa] near the south coast of Western Australia extends a ridge across Queensland. The high will move east across southern Australia over the next few days, maintaining a ridge and cool S'ly winds over much of the state. An upper level trough is moving east across the southern interior. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Isolated light showers over Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Cloudy with possible light showers over the far southern interior. Fine and dry elsewhere. Moderate to fresh and gusty S to SE winds in the tropics and northwest. Mostly moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Monday Isolated showers over Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait, with patchy light rain areas developing. Isolated showers developing in the afternoon and evening about the Gold Coast. Fine and dry elsewhere. Cool to cold temperatures away from the tropics, with morning frost areas about parts of the southeast and southern interior. Moderate to fresh and gusty S to SE winds in the tropics and northwest. Mostly moderate SW to SE winds elsewhere. Forecast for Tuesday The high will move east over New South Wales, maintaining a firm ridge and fresh to strong SE'ly winds along the east tropical coast and through eastern Gulf waters. The surface trough will contract north over southern Queensland waters and weaken, easing winds along the southeast coast. Isolated showers will occur on the southeast coast, clearing south of Fraser Island during the afternoon. Cloudy conditions will continue over Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait with isolated showers and patchy light rain areas. The ridge will maintain fine conditions elsewhere with early frost areas over the southeastern interior. Forecast for Wednesday A broad area of high pressure will extend over southern Queensland. Strong SE'ly winds will continue along the northeast tropical coast north of Cairns and through far northeastern Gulf waters. Isolated showers will occur along the northeast tropical coast in an increasingly moist onshore wind flow. Fine conditions will occur elsewhere under a dry, stable airmass. Isolated early frost patches will possibly affect parts of the southeast interior. Daytime temperatures will climb back to near the September average over southern districts. Forecast for Thursday The broad area of high pressure will remain over southern Queensland. Strong SE'ly winds will continue along the northeast tropical coast north of Cairns and through far northeastern Gulf waters. Isolated showers expected about the northeast tropical coast, and possibly extending to the central coast. Fine conditions elsewhere. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday A broad area of high pressure will persist over southern Queensland during the outlook period. Fresh to strong SE'ly winds and isolated showers will continue along the east tropical coast. Fine elsewhere due to stable conditions. Daytime temperatures increasing to above average over southern districts, while minimum temperatures generally expected to remain below average.
