Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning is current for southern Gulf waters.
A strong wind warning is current for southeast coastal waters.

Weather Situation
A trough is moving towards the east coast of Queensland at present with a
rain band over southern Queensland. This trough will clear the southeast and
central coast this evening with dry and cooler weather developing over most of
the state for Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Patchy rain and possible thunder over the southern and southeast interior
will contract to the coast this evening as moderate to fresh NW winds shift
cooler SW'ly. Some isolated showers to follow the patchy rain this evening over
the Darling Downs. Early isolated showers about the Capricorn and Wide Bay
coasts. Generally dry over the remainder of the state, becoming cold over the
southern interior with S'ly winds. Strong SE winds developing over southern Gulf
waters and strong NW winds developing about the southeast coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The trough clears the east coast with dry conditions generally over
Queensland apart from isolated showers in the northern tropics. Rather chilly
over southern Queensland in the morning with early frost over the southeast and
southern interior. Strong SE winds now developing about the northeast tropical
coast as well as in the Gulf.  Strong SW winds about the southeast coast.
Forecast for Sunday
The next high enters southern Western Australia with a ridge developing
across the interior of Queensland. Remaining dry over most of the state apart
from a little patchy rain in the northern tropics. Chilly in the south in the
morning with early frost of the southern and southeast interior. Strong SE winds
persisting across the tropics. SW winds easing over the southeast region.
Forecast for Monday
The ridge of higher pressure moves south into southern Queensland and eases
winds further. Winds start to shift SE'ly about the southeast coast with
increasing moisture leading to isolated showers about the islands. Some early
frost inland over the southern interior. Little change in the tropics with
strong winds and patchy light rain.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Tuesday, the ridge of high pressure persists across southern Queensland with
light winds. This will maintain SE winds about the east coast and develop
isolated showers generally. Patchy light rain in the tropics. Wednesday, showers
now about the northeast tropical and the central coasts. Fine over the
remainder. Thursday, little change in the south, showers contracting north along
the east coast.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Friday.
