Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough over northeastern New South Wales is deepening as an upper cold pool approaches from the west. The trough will move offshore this morning as a cold front moves over the southwestern Tasman Sea and a low will develop over the western Tasman Sea this morning. The low is expected to move rapidly towards New Zealand on Saturday as a strong high pressure system moves southwest of the Bight extending a ridge to the northern Tasman Sea.
Forecast for the rest of FridayPartly cloudy in the northwest. Rain areas in the north and east becoming scattered showers during the day. Possible thunderstorms in the northeast. Showers elsewhere clearing from the north, and from the southwest following the cold front. Snow showers on the Alps and on the higher parts of the southern and central ranges down to about 1100m later. Cold and gusty southwesterly winds extending throughout.Saturday 10 SeptemberIsolated showers in the southeast and on the central coast and ranges. Snow showers about the southern ranges, and possibly about higher parts of the central tablelands in the morning. Partly cloudy elsewhere. Fresh and cold southwesterly winds.Sunday 11 SeptemberIsolated showers in the southern half of the state, mostly about the southwest slopes. Partly cloudy elsewhere. West to southwesterly winds.Monday 12 SeptemberIsolated showers on the north and central coasts. Mostly sunny elsewhere. South to southwest winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDN10031
