MELBOURNE - Sep 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure is weakening along the east of Queensland. A trough will move through Queensland today and clear the coast overnight Friday with freshening SW to SE winds. A high pressure southwest of Perth will slowly move east, extending a firm ridge across Queensland in the wake of the trough Forecast for the rest of Thursday Patchy thundery rain moving across western districts today with a freshening SW'ly wind change. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing ahead of the thundery rain over the Maranoa and Darling Downs districts this afternoon. Isolated afternoon showers elsewhere over the eastern interior. Fine over the tropics. Light to moderate NE winds over the interior ahead of the change. Forecast for Friday Thundery rain over the southern and SE interior contracting to the coast by the evening with the SW'ly wind change. Isolated showers on the central coast in the afternoon. Fine over the tropics. Becoming dry and cold over the interior with moderate to fresh S/SW winds. Strong SE winds developing over southern Gulf waters. Strong NW winds developing on the SE coast ahead of the change. Forecast for Saturday The high near Perth will have moved into the Great Australian Bight and continuing to extend a strong ridge across Queensland. Dry over most of the state, isolated showers in the far northern tropics. Rather chilly over the south with early frost over the southern interior. Chilly winds over the SE region. Strong SE winds developing about the NE tropical coast. Forecast for Sunday The high in the Great Australian Bight will weaken though still extend a ridge across the state. An upper level trough will amplify over western Queensland. Remaining dry over most of the state. Chilly morning in the south with early frost over the southern interior. A little light patchy rain developing late in the northern tropics. Strong SE winds persisting over the tropics. Forecast for Monday The weakening high will move into southeastern Australia with mostly fine conditions across the state. Light patchy rain is expected to develop about the northern tropics as the upper trough slowly moves east. Early frost in the southern and southeastern interior. Strong SE winds persisting over the tropics. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday The high will move into the northern Tasman Sea on Tuesday extending a ridge up the Queensland coast. Light, patchy rain decreases over the tropics on Wednesday as the upper trough weakens. Isolated showers will develop along the tropical coast on Tuesday in a fresh to strong SE'ly stream. Fine conditions elsewhere in the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Friday.
