MELBOURNE - Sep 8/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure is weakening along the east of Queensland. A trough will move through Queensland today and clear the coast overnight Friday with freshening winds. Forecast for the rest of Thursday Patchy thundery rain moving across western districts today with a freshening SW'ly wind change. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing ahead of the thundery rain over the Maranoa and Darling Downs districts this afternoon. Isolated afternoon showers elsewhere over the eastern interior. Fine over the tropics. Moderating SE winds about the east coast and across the Gulf. Light to moderate NE winds over the interior ahead of the change. Forecast for Friday Thundery rain over the southern and SE interior contracting to the coast by the evening with the SW'ly wind change. Isolated showers on the central coast in the afternoon. Fine over the tropics. Becoming dry and cold over the interior with moderate to fresh S/SW winds. Strong SE winds developing over southern Gulf waters. Strong NW winds developing on the SE coast ahead of the change. Forecast for Saturday Dry over most of the state, isolated showers in the far northern tropics. Rather chilly over the south with early frost over the southern interior. Chilly winds over the SE region. Strong SE winds developing about the NE tropical coast. Forecast for Sunday Remaining dry over most of the state with a ridge of higher pressure across the interior of Queensland. Chilly morning in the south with early frost over the southern interior. A little light patchy rain in the northern tropics. Strong SE winds persisting over the tropics. Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday Monday, the next high enters S.A with the ridge maintaining across the interior of Queensland. Much the same weather as Sunday with patchy light rain in the north, dry over the remainder of the state. Early frost in the south. Tuesday, the high now enters the NW of N.S.W with the ridge over southern Queensland. Patchy light rain in the north, dry over the remainder. Wednesday, patchy rain decreases over the tropics, however showers redevelop about the central coast as winds turn SE. Fine over the remainder of the state.
