Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge extends from the southern Bight towards Lord Howe island, with a high pressure centre over western Victoria. This high will drift slowly east, reaching the western Tasman Sea by Friday. It is then expected to remain to the west of new Zealand until Tuesday with a persistent ridge extending from this high over New South Wales. Later in the weekend, a cold front is expected to approach from the west, but its impact on NSW is expected to be small due to the residual strong ridge. Another stronger front is likely to affect the state Tuesday through Thursday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms about the northern coast and adjacent ranges. Isolated showers possible along the southern coast. Fine elsewhere. Southwest to southeasterly winds, freshening along the southern coast.Friday 2 SeptemberIsolated showers along the coast and adjacent ranges contracting northwards, tending scattered in the north and possibly extending to the northwest slopes. Possible afternoon thunderstorms in the far northeast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Early frost patches on the ranges, mostly in the south. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Saturday 3 SeptemberIsolated showers about the central and northern coasts. Fine elsewhere. North to northeasterly winds.Sunday 4 SeptemberIsolated showers in the far northeast. Isolated showers or patchy rain developing in the southwest and extending through southern districts to the south coast during the day. Possible thunderstorms over the southern inland. Fine remainder. Northwest to northeasterly winds ahead of a west to southwesterly change spreading through the southern inland and far western areas.Monday 5 SeptemberIsolated showers about the southeast and possibly the far northeast.
