Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 30/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters
north of Cooktown for Wednesday evening.

Weather Situation
A surface trough lies over the eastern Queensland interior. A high moving
east over the Great Australian Bight will move over southeast Australia,
extending a ridge over western Queensland.  An upper level trough is moving over
southeast Queensland and is expected to move offshore later this morning.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Isolated showers are expected about the east coast and adjacent inland,
although mostly fine conditions are likely about the coast between Ingham and
Fraser Island. Fine elsewhere in the state under a stable air mass. Freshening
SE winds along the coast, reaching strong north of Cooktown during the evening.
Very high fire danger in the Northwest.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will move east and strengthen, maintaining a ridge along the east
Queensland coast. Isolated showers will continue about east coastal districts
north of about Ingham, tending scattered about the North Tropical Coast in the
morning. Mostly fine conditions are expected elsewhere about the east coast and
adjacent inland with only very isolated showers. Remaining fine in the west.
Fresh to strong SE winds along the tropical coast.
Forecast for Friday
The high moves east into the Tasman Sea with a strengthening ridge along the
east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will continue about the east coastal
districts and push slightly further inland with showers tending scattered about
the North Tropical Coast in the morning. Another upper level trough is likely in
increase shower activity about the far southeast of the state. Fresh to strong
SE winds about the tropical coast with possible freshening winds in far southern
waters. Moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The high continues to move further east in to the Tasman Sea with a firm
ridge extending along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers are expected
along the length of the east Queensland coast and are likely to extend further
inland into the eastern interior. Strong winds are likely to extend along much
of the east  Queensland coast as the high in the Tasman Sea continues to
intensify.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high is expected to move slowly east  in to the eastern Tasman Sea during
the outlook period. The high will continue to extend a ridge over eastern
Queensland with isolated showers about the east coast, extending further inland
into the eastern interior during the outlook period. Remaining fine elsewhere.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
