Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 30/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning has been issued for coastal waters
north of Cairns for Wednesday evening.

Weather Situation
A surface trough lies over the eastern Queensland interior. A high moving
east over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge over western Queensland.
An upper level trough is moving over southeast Queensland and is expected to
move offshore during Wednesday morning.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms east of a line from about Georgetown to
Mungindi tending to thundery rain areas through the evening. Only isolated
showers are expected over the northeast tropics. Fine in the west of the state
with a very high fire danger expected in the Northwest and Central West
districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the eastern half of the state.
Moderate S to SE winds in the west.
Forecast for Wednesday
Any early thundery rain areas should have cleared off the southeast coast by
the early hours with clearing skies likely to allow fog patches to form about
southeast Queensland. Isolated showers are expected about the east coast and
adjacent inland, although mostly fine conditions are likely about the coast
between Cardwell and Bundaberg. Fine elsewhere in the state under a stable air
mass with another warm day in the west. Freshening SE winds along the coast,
reaching strong north of Cairns during the evening.
Forecast for Thursday
The high near Tasmania will strengthen and maintain the ridge along the east
Queensland coast. Isolated showers will continue about east coastal districts
north of about Cardwell. Mostly fine conditions are expected elsewhere about the
east coast  and adjacent inland with only very isolated showers. Remaining fine
elsewhere with warm conditions in the west. Fresh to strong SE winds along the
tropical coast.
Forecast for Friday
The high moves east into the Tasman Sea with a strengthening ridge along the
east Queensland coast. Isolated showers will continue about the east coastal
districts and push slightly further inland. Another upper level trough is likely
in increase shower activity about the far southeast of the state with scattered
showers developing. Fresh to strong SE winds about the tropical coast and
possibly developing in southern waters late in the day. Moderate SE to NE winds
elsewhere.
Forecast for Saturday
The high continues to move further east in to the Tasman Sea with a firm
ridge extending along the east Queensland coast. Isolated showers are expected
along the length of the east Queensland coast and are likely to extend further
inland into the eastern interior. Strong winds are likely to extend along the
length of the east  Queensland coast as the high in the Tasman Sea intensifies
slightly.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high is expected to move slowly east  in to the eastern Tasman Sea during
the outlook period. The high will continue to extend a ridge over eastern
Queensland with isolated showers about the east coast, extending further inland
into the eastern interior during the outlook period. Remaining fine elsewhere.
Temperatures remaining generally above average over the interior.

Wednesday.
