Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 28/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A strong wind warning has been issued for southeast Gulf of
Carpentaria waters for Tuesday morning.

Weather Situation
A surface trough lies over the Queensland interior. A high [1025 hPa] moving
east over the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge over western Queensland. An
upper level trough over South Australia is expected to move into western
Queensland late today.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Patchy rain, scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southern tropics
and central districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over southeast
districts northwest of Bundaberg to Dalby. Isolated shower or thunderstorms over
the northeast tropics. Morning fog patches about parts of central and southeast
districts. Early morning frost about the Granite Belt. Fine and a warm day in
the west with a very high fire danger for the Northwest district. Light to
moderate SW to SE winds, fresh at times over the northwest. Light winds and
afternoon coastal NE sea breezes along the Capricornia and southern coasts.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper trough is expected to move over eastern Queensland and is likely to
generate patchy rain, scattered showers and thunderstorms east of the surface
trough lying over the central and southern interior. Isolated showers east of
the trough over the northeast tropics. Fine and warm in the west as the high
will move into southeastern Australia and maintain a ridge over the region.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough will move off the southern Queensland coast during the early
morning with lingering showers and storms clearing. The almost stationary high
over southeastern Australia will extend a ridge into eastern Queensland with
isolated showers along the east coast, tending scattered about the north
tropical coast. Fine elsewhere in the state under a stable air mass. A warm day
in the west. Freshening SE winds along the coast, reaching strong north of
Cairns during the evening.
Forecast for Thursday
The high near Tasmania will strengthen and maintain the ridge along the east
Queensland coast. Isolated showers about east coastal districts, tending
scattered about the north tropical coast in the morning. Remaining fine and warm
in the west. Fresh to strong SE winds along the tropical coast, lighter winds
along the southern coast.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high is expected to move slowly east over the Tasman Sea during the
outlook period. The high will continue to extend a ridge over eastern Queensland
with showers about the coast, extending into the eastern interior during the
weekend. Remaining fine elsewhere. Temperatures remaining generally above
average over the interior.
