MELBOURNE - Aug 27/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over South Australia extends a weak ridge into western Queensland. A
surface and upper trough moving through interior Queensland will clear the
southern coast Sunday morning. The surface trough will stall about central
Queensland on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Cloudy with rain and drizzle areas and isolated thunderstorms east of
Charleville and south of Mackay, clearing to the east. Isolated showers over
Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the remainder of
the eastern tropics. Fine west of about Longreach. Light to moderate SE to NE
winds along the east coast, shifting NW to SW over the interior.
Forecast for Sunday
Rain and drizzle will clear remaining areas of the southern Queensland early
in the morning. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to persist over
central districts due to the lingering unstable airmass near the surface trough.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will also occur over the eastern
tropical interior and southern tropical coast in a moist, unstable airmass.
Isolated showers will continue over Cape York Peninsula. Conditions will remain
fine and warm over most of western Queensland.
Forecast for Monday
A new high is expected to move east over the Great Australian Bight,
extending a ridge and fine, drier conditions across western and southern
Queensland. The surface trough is expected to linger over eastern Queensland and
produce isolated showers and thunderstorms in the moist, unstable airmass over
the southern tropics and central districts. Isolated showers will occur over the
far northern tropics. Conditions will remain warm by day in the west and
southern interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The next upper trough is expected to move over eastern Queensland and is
likely to generate showers and thunderstorms northeast of the lingering surface
trough south of Bowen. Isolated showers remaining eastern districts. Fine in the
west as the high moves over southeastern Australia extending a ridge into
western parts of the state.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper trough will move off the southeast Queensland coast in the early
morning with lingering shower clearing. The now almost stationary high over
southeastern Australia will extend a ridge into eastern Queensland with isolated
showers along the eastern coast. Fine elsewhere in the state under a stable air
mass.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high is expected to move slowly east during the outlook period,
continuing to extend a ridge into Queensland with mostly fine conditions
prevailing. Isolated showers are expected along most of the east coast and
nearby ranges. Fine elsewhere. Temperatures remaining generally above average
over the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
