Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 26/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over southeast Australia and the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along
the east Queensland coast. An upper level trough moving east over central and
South Australia today is expected to move over southern Queensland and New South
Wales during Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Cloudy with scattered showers and patchy rain about central districts and the
southern interior. Cloudy over southeast districts with isolated showers and
light rain, increasing later in the evening. Isolated showers over the northeast
tropics. Fine over the far west. Mostly light to moderate SE to NE winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Cloud with rain areas and isolated thunderstorms east of Charleville and
south of Emerald, with moderate falls east of about Emerald to Roma. Isolated
showers over Cape York Peninsula. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
over the remainder of the eastern tropics. Fine west of about Longreach. Light
to moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast, shifting NW to SW over the
interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper trough will most likely move off the east Queensland coast during
the morning, clearing the rain band east off the central and southern coast
early. However, showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely to persist over
central and southeast districts due to a lingering unstable airmass east of a
weak surface trough over the southern interior. Scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms will also occur over the eastern tropical interior and southern
tropical coast in a moist, unstable airmass. Isolated showers will continue over
Cape York Peninsula. Conditions will remain fine and warm over most of western
Queensland.
Forecast for Monday
A new high is expected to move east over the Great Australian Bight,
extending a ridge and fine, drier conditions across western and most of southern
Queensland. The surface trough is expected to linger over eastern Queensland and
produce scattered showers and afternoon thunderstorms in the moist, unstable
airmass over the southern tropics and central districts. Isolated showers will
occur over the far northern tropics. Conditions will remain warm by day in the
west and southern interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The next upper trough is expected to move over eastern Queensland on Tuesday
and is likely to generate further showers and thunderstorms over the
southeastern tropics and central districts northeast of the lingering surface
trough. More isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over southeast coastal
districts and southeastern Darling Downs and Granite Belt. Isolated showers
about the north tropical coast and ranges. Fine in the west and over the
southern interior.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
A high is expected to move over southeastern Australia during the outlook
period, extending a ridge and mostly fine conditions across Queensland. Isolated
showers are expected along most of the east coast and nearby ranges. Fine
elsewhere. Temperatures remaining generally above average over the interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Saturday.
